It will look like this...

Looks like Formica? Will you velcro it to the stand?

Tagging along. Thanks for putting forth the effort to include us in your adventure. I am a new to saltwater guy and learning alot from the various builds. Do watch around the powder coat and if you have a chip paint it before too long so you won't have a rust problem.

I don't know why but my plumbing is loud, not in the overflow, but in the stand...anyone see something wrong with this? 1.5" drain and 0.75" return...

Is it the noise of water exiting the pipe into the overflow or the noise in the pipe itself? ( your pic doesn't show sump water level)

I have a near identical set up on mine. I read a while back that the thinwall PVC is noisier? Not sure if that's true..

I have that problem to and I just read that if you angle your pipes downward that there is less water noise in them.

noise...........................

noise...........................

i believe that what your hearing is the vibration of the water flow....the metal hanging straps should be of a plastic/fabric material....noise will travel anywhere it can just like electricity finding a ground...change those and see.....:deadhorse1:

Thanks, I think that will work, that pipe does go upwards a little bit...

What LED's do you plan on buying or do you plan to build your own?

I am still looking at a lot...reviews are all over the place and everything is very expensive...I ordered sunbrites because I like the bulb configuration possibilities, the silence, and the looks...then a week later the LFS told me that they haven't heard from the manufacturer and refunded me my money...Waves in Glass from SDreefs makes good units that are proven, and everyone recommends aqua illuminations "8 puck" fixtures...I don't know, they are so expensive that I don't want to have to buy different fixtures again, I feel like this is just like the megapixel (digital camera)/flat screen TV 1080p race where if I buy something, a month later something better will come out and be half the cost, I have a 3 x 250 watt MH fixture for now but I obv want to buy asap...tried with the sunbrites but who would have known that the manufacturer would have been MIA...

Go diy. A little work, less money, and fully customized built by you :)

Ok, I re-plumbed it, sounds better, also went with the stockman pipe...got a bio-pellet reactor (I don't think it's tumbling enough, it's being pushed by a nano Tunze by the skimmer) Got a mangroves (never had them --> how do I root them?), pods, and a cleanup crew from reefcleaners.org...I think half may be dead...I added a pyramid butterfly and a midas blenny a few days ago, they are eating and happy...I also added a few zoa colonies...nitrates are at 20-ish...how long should I wait to put more fish? SPS?

I would go slow with adding more fish and corals. Wait till your params are pretty steady and cycled through. That's a killer skimmer.
