After a few more days to settle in, and the introduction of the new clown tang to the same tank, the Lubbocks Wrasse is becoming more brave. I actually managed to snap another couple of pics.

Since I am really proud of this fish, and dont have any corals to take pictures of.....here he is:

This fish swims really oddly....the back fins just flutter like a humming bird, a very different swimmig action to the other fish/wrasses I have.

Looks good Paul. Makes me miss my Lubbocks, only fish I've ever lost to jumping...and it was after it was in the tank for a couple months. :(

well.....

Not exactly an update...but...

While cleaning my tank last night I guess i must have knocked a piece of plumbing in the tank. During the day it became a temporary home for the longest lived inhabitant of my tank I have.

For some reason my wife seems to think he looks embarrassed (or she....as Lynn prefers to think of her). After a little while SHE resumed her perambles across the tank.

The cucumber is at least 10 years old and is probably around 12 inches, if not longer, when fully extended.

I liked the picture. I hope you do,.

Scratching an itch....

Scratching an itch....

So that's how a sea cucumber scratches its back :D

I know where that fitting came from...but I didn't do it, I promise!

Flow accelerators

Flow accelerators

Paul,

Do you recommend flow accelerators for the closed loop?

I have been looking at the Pacific Coast flow accelerators. but will have to adapt the slip connector of the 1" bulkheads to a MPT fitting to mount the eductors... I suppose I could just slide a 1" PVC in the bulkhead and glue a threaded adaptor at the end...?

Your thoughts?

My thoughts are mixed....yes i ike them, but they are not as powerful as I had hoped- but thats my fault not theirs. Primarily it comes down to the back pressure on the pump. Im running a baracuda, which is not a pressure rated pump.

Before filling the tank with rock i tried the eductors on and without them. The flow was ost certainly faster with them on.

Your proposal is sound, but i would personally do a reducer to 3/4 then do loc line to the eductor. the reason is that you have to be able to "position" the flow, unless all you want to do is roll the tank barrel fashion.

Finally.....to get flow in a racetrack pattern you HAVE to concentrate the flow to be near the top of the tank. essentially friction with the sand will hamper the majority of flow across the bottom....but if you get the top moving, the bottom will follow suit.

Does that help at all G. ?
