I am using this coralife moonlight. It is only $17.99 at Marine depot, and it is great. It shimmers every bit as good as my halide, and it has made a huge difference in my fish and the clams seem to especially love it. I haven't had one jumper since installing the moonlights.

Of coarse Paul would need 50 of them to light the gulf :).

will one of those be good enough for my 44 gal?!

... paul, where are the new pics?! i am excited to see more!

Well I finished my racks for the lighting yesterday and did a test run. I was happy with how it looks.

All I can say is....PVC pipe is mans best friend (after dogs,) (well after dogs and beer), (well after dogs beers and pizza....but you get the idea).

Basically I made a rack for each light with 3/4 PVC and eggcrate. The reflector is attached to that and the PVC sides straddle the hole in the tank. The sides of the PVC are locked in place using a clippable saddle clip that is zip tied to the tank top (...ahh the beauty of acrylic...easily drillable). The ght is 8 inches above the water.

The lights can be easily removed should I need in the tank.

I will post some pictures later this evening I hope.

Paul.

I am looking into making a similar rack for my 125 and would love to see a photo or two of your creation.

Ok here are the pics. As I said before, its a really simple set up.

I need to have easy access at all times so I needed a system that can be moved whenever I need it to be. Add a lot of cats in to the equation and it also needs to be very secure. What I came up with works well....at least so far. It doesnt have to be aesthetically pleasing since the racks will ultimately be behind a wall.

Anyways.....

Heres the top of my tank:

Each rack is 19 wide by 20 long by 9 tall (that makes the bulb 8 inches from water line)

from the side:

here are the clips I used...each is a soft plastic clip, they are zip tied to the edge of the cutouts and slip on and off of the legs.

and heres how it looks (with aluminum foil to prevent blindness)

I have 6 lights at present. will be adding two more soon to finish it off.

Paul.

and for anyone thats wondering....after 6 hours of being on, there is virtually no heat build up in the eggcrate above the 400w bulb. Im assuming the heat disperses really well from the gull wing reflectors.

Can blue throats be paired like cross hatch triggers? If so, have you considered getting him/her a friend?

Also, do you know why blue throats are so much less expensive than cross hatch triggers?

Paul, you are obviously moving each rack at a time, not all 8 at once. What are you doing with the rack when you move it? Just placing it on top of the one next to it?

yes, I lift it and place on top, or on the floor behind the tank. Either way it is easy.

As for blues and crosshatches....I have no idea about matching and I assume crosshatches are rarer or harder to catch hence the price hike

PS...my Tunze 6200 came in. 5,000 gph.
Wow... that baby shifts some water. I really need to make a rock to mount it in. It moves about the tank all on its own.

It really does pump a lot of water.

Blue Chin Triggers can be paired together quite successfully. Now getting them to breed is the trick.

Hey Paul, think I could use that Tunze 6200 in my 29g tank instead of all my powerheads and pumps?

travis...no disrespect...but are you being sarcastic?

5000gph pump in a 29...is a tad eccesive...

maybe im just being too literal?....that coment just struck me is suppose. ;)

Yes, that was a little sarcastic. FWIW, I push ~1290 gph in my 29g though. A Mag7 (700gph) pump and two MJ1200s (295gph/each). I thought about ditching the two MJs and getting a Seio.
