600 gallon Acrylic Reef

I definitely have to get a better way to clamp the tunze in position. Looks like i will be investing in a couple of the magnetic clamps. The 6200 certainly moves a lot of water

They are good, but the price differfence isnt really that much between the seio and the lower end tunzes. I have had two seio, one broke almost immediately. Lazyreefer has also had 2. One of his stopped due to a cracked impeller, same as mine. The power consumption is also higher on the Seios.

They are tho, available at the LFS and work very well. These pumps are ideal for running on a UPS to keep the tank water moving in case of a power supply.

Paul, couple more questions for ya. :p

I really want a trigger in the future. Do you know of any good literature on the blue throat? What do you feed him? Does he ever pick at/eat corals, crabs, shrimp, etc? Do you know if there is minimum tank size for these guys?

As for circulation. Did you ever look into the new EcoTech Vortech pumps? Or did you already have a few Streams when these came out? Im planning a 150 to 300 gallon display that will be shallow and wide. Maybe even a semi cube (square foot print). I really dont want to mess with a CL either. Any thoughts or insights into why you chose the pumps and configuration you did.

Sorry again for the 20 questions. :D

i looked at the ecotech but could not get my hands on one. I would have loved to have seen one working and get a feel for them.

The bluethroat is a pelagic feeder, they only eat foods in the wtare column. the mouth faces upwards. He eats all the foods i add but loves to nibble on nori as well. It has never bothered any inverst i have had nor clams.

I have had a good experience with my SEIOs for the past 5 months or so without any significant. I am sorry to hear about your experiences with cracked impellers, etc. I would love to know if those experiences are more global, or if you guys simply had some bad eggs.

Also, I would like very much to know what Tunzes you are talking about that you can get at a price that isn't that much more then a SEIO. I think the Tunzes are great, but have only found them to be MUCH more expensive. From what I see out there, these are the sorts of prices you can expect on the web, as well as Watts & GPH of each powerhead.
Code:
Powerhead Price GPH Watts GPH/$ GPH/W

    * Tunze #1 = Non-Adjustable Speed Tunze Turbelle Streams
    * Tunze #2 = Adjustable Speed Tunze Turbelle Streams
I found these numbers really interesting. From these numbers, I draw the following conclusions.
  1. Tunzes generally use power more efficiently then SEIOs
  2. 9 SEIO m620 are relatively comparable in flow, power & cost (less $, actually) then a Tunze 6200. Of course, then you have 9 powerheads in your Oklahoma Gulf tank, instead of 1. :)
  3. SEIOS are ALWAYS more economical (GPH/$) then Tunzes
  4. Tunzes pack an AMAZING punch in such a small package...[/list=1]Btw. The last 2 columns above (GPH/$ & GPH/W) are basically telling you how much flow you are getting for each dollar spent and watt used. Also, note that all prices came from MarineDepot.com. You can actually get the SEIOs SLIGHTLY cheaper from DrsFosterSmith.com & ReefGeek.com.

Very nice database there. Thank you for sharing. If I could, I would get a controllable Tunze for my 29g, but you know me and money. ;) Cheap, cheap, cheap.

As far as your question about Seios goes, yes it is a global thing. Albiet, less often than a Rio, but Seios are known to have a run of trouble. It seems like they are either really good, improve with age, or suck from the very beginning. Rios on the other hand suck almost all the way around. So, though Seios are inexpensive, you might pay the same amount as a reliable Tunze trying to get the thing to work right. Or you might be lucky. Buying a Seio seems to be a game of Roullette. Or you can shell out a ton of money and get a reliable Tunze

I am glad I've gotten lucky so far. :)

So, do they usually fail soon enough to return them and get a replacement? Also, how does Taam customer service respond? Do they acknowledge the problem and send out replacements or new impellers, etc? Have people tried that route?

Just curious...

And, of course, in the end you often/usually/always get what you pay for...

The threads that I have read never mentioned anyone trying any of that. They should have though. With what people were reporting, most failed in a timely manner. I would assume that it was covered under some sort of warranty.

I personally have been selling about 40 seios a month for the last 8 months or so and have only had two returns. Whether or not people have had problems with them and not mentioned anything to me I cannot say obviously. The new seio controller should be available soon also. There are cheaper places to buy the seios than that also. You can buy brand new seios off e-bay for

Seio 620 29.99
Seio 820 39.99
Seio 1500 59.99
Seio 2600 62.99

Hmmm very interesting
An lfs saying you can get better prices of e-bay
That said, the lfs I visit has higher prices but excellent customer service
I run 2 820 in my 90 18 months no problems,
They always restart when the power comes back on
During a thunder storm they will click, but the TV will not flicker
I had 2 1500 and had to trade down
On the controller I think is pie in the sky
If they did put one out any power head would work on it
I hope they can get it to work

ok dont hijack my fabulous tank building thread.

I did just order two of the universal magnetic holders for the tunzes from premiumaquatics. The sure grip holders.

I was just thinking that... :)

And those magnetic powerhead holders are awesome. I surely will be getting a pair for my SEIOs in a couple of months when I have the money.

Sorry
What is your kw/hr on your electricity?
Just over the river they want 0.14-0.16
Great progress and setup
Have you always had acrylic tanks?
