600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Great job on the mixing station, Wayne! And best of luck to you with your upcoming knee surgery...

Thanks Mike. Only bad part is I have to stay off the knee for about a month. Good thing I have some great members in my reef club that will assist in helping with my water changes and anything else I need done.

Is the plan to finish the tank before or after the surgery? Stay healthy, buddy!

Sorry to give you bad news but no. I have to wait for the builder to finish with all his requests before MACNA and I have to finish some personal issues. So hopefully before the year ends there will be some progress. Ummmm yea and I said that 2 years ago beginning the build. Plus being on a military disability income doesn't help out either.

I vote for BEFORE! BEFORE! BEFORE!

AFTER, AFTER, AFTER.:facepalm::facepalm: Sorry O.

What branch were you in?
I was a Submariner myself. Only in for 8 years though.
SSBN 736 USS Maryland (mostly)
Funny, if you add it up I have lived in saltwater for over 3 years of my life wishing I was anywhere else, and now I spend years of my life trying to keep just a fraction of it healthy in my living room.

I joined the army in 1982 and in the mid 90's i took a six year break and then joined the reserves. I didn't have an exciting military life until I started doing lots of classified stuff all the way up to Iraq. But after my injury they retired me at 17 1/2 years so this build is on a military budget thus it being slow. But once up and running I am able to maintain the tank.

Daily Water Changes and Dosing

Daily Water Changes and Dosing

For those of you who are doing daily water changes, do you see your dosing more or less? Or how big of daily water changes do you need to do to maintain parameters without dosing. Just curious as this was running through my mind.

Advice is greatly appreciated.

I have wondered about this also. As the water change will increase certain parameters. Some are used up greater than what is in the water change SW.

I dose dilute CaCl and NaCO3 from two large top off jugs. Works great for me. 100mL per gallon of top off, and I go through 10 gallons of each a week. It really comes down to watching your params. Checking it every day might be a little obsessive though. You could probably test once a week and be fine.

But is that included in your daily water changes? I'm just finding some info.

Man, I have not been on RC in a while. I just got caught back up with your build to re motivate me with mine. Its coming along great!

Welcome back. I am honored to know that I can help with you getting back online with your tank. There are definitely days where I just want to give up but Dan, worm, dca, and a couple other reefers won't let me.

Keep it up wayne. I am on a tight budget myself trying to put together a 55 gallon tank, I can imagine a tank like yours lol. Little by little things will get done and we will get to where we want to be.

Never looked at it that way but you are definitely right. Thank you for the support.

Then I drilled the holes to help keep the salt suspended and mixed.

And the final product.

Another great idea I'm going to have to borrow. Love reading your progress I always come away learning something. Keep up the good work!

That's cool. I think it is important for people to see that these tanks can be beautiful and grand no matter what the size of your wallet.

The important constant is not $$ invested but <3 <3 invested.

Lead on my man!
