600 Gallon Upgrade Build

No, sorry, I have never used the NeoZit system or whatever; far too expensive and possibly OCD.

In my limited experience cyano is just a typical stage in the maturing of any new tank and not a reason to freak out over. It will arrive out of nowhere, you'll scrape and scratch and lift it out and then it will suddenly disappear after one to four weeks on its own. I see no reason to obsess over it and throw a lot of money at wonder cures.

I have not felt the need to try carbon dosing (yet) but I do try to follow the various articles on it. It is my understanding that carbon dosing requires both nitrates and phosphates to work, gradually reducing both, but obviously if there is more of one element than the other in a particular system then that element will become limiting to the process. As I recall, glennf is actually dosing some of these elements back into his system in order to maintain a balance. This is very interesting but far too controlling for me. I would rather look at the pretty fishies than be micro-analyzing every element, i.e. chasing the numbers.

Just sayin'.

If you want it gone I would wrap the tank in black plastic for 3 days...no lights, no feeding.....tank should have enough oxygen via sump but you can add an air-stone if really needed. Problem should be gone. CC did it to their big FOWLR tank about 4 months ago with success.

wow did not know that!!

Wayne, in the past I have blacked out my tank with blankets or whatever you have for 3 days. Fish and coral will be ok. The. When lights come back on it's just for a few hours each day at first
It also usually forms in lower flow areas from what I've read. Try to find the nutrient problem and solve it. Not that you don't know that.

Cyano needs something to out-compete it. In this case some hair algae or a big ball of macro algae in the sump might be your friend. Hard to do with the zeovit system, no?
Dave.M. Have any experience with this combo?
Daniel. :headwally:

The cyano is totally gone. I went three day blackout and I dosed coral snow daily while alternating it with ZeoBak and Biomate. I think my real problem is I need to replace the T5s also as they were probably aiding along with me over feeding the ZeoVit products also. So I am down to just the basic 4 along with Pohl's Extra and Coral Vitalizer.

DO NOT bring your wallet. No credit cards. Bring just as much cash as you know you reasonably can afford. Otherwise you will put yourself in serious debt before you realize it.

Cool looking forward to seeing pictures. What do frags like you bought cost in your neck of the woods at a show like that?

The ladies just aren't safe around you, Wayne. Glad to hear you had a good time.

I waited until the last minute so on average each SPS frag was $40 after the discounts. They were on average $10-20 more.
