600 Gallons System - i2ik's Journal

I agree with you that prolifux are a trusted and reliable company but when i saw what happened to Weatherson, it gave me the creep that something like that could happened.

This summer, i will try to maximize my prolifux controller and would love to add the lighting effect on the tank. Having Chris and you around the area with the same controller is very nice! ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The GHL/Profilux is not made of cheap material. It's German made afterall :) and it's well designed.

Mine has been running for more then a year now without any problems.

I might get one of the Profilux LEDs also, but not the T5's, since I want to keep my open top look very clean without anything in the way.

If you need more help with your Profilux let me know, I think I've mastered everything about it :)

Btw, you should check with your home insurance company what is covered and not. Believe me, my next door neighbor had a fire 3-4 years ago and it was hell with the insurance company. I finally won in the end, but be sure to have pictures and details about everything you have..just in case :)

Richard any new FTS with all those fish swimming and the corals glued on?

how are you liking the achilles?

GSMguy: unfortunately the achilles did not make it. He was not interested at all on any kind of food that i provided him and suddently died from velvet disease which almost killed all my fishes. I managed to save all the wrasses, my helfrichi firefish, Hippo tang w/ yellow belly and a few more fishes. I learned that i better QT all the fishes before introducing them to the main tank.

i am in the process of killing all the algae on my rocks, and it seem to be working slowly. I noticed this morning that turning the light off worked as i could see some grape algae floating and starting to bleach. I will keep the light off with a few hours of artinic to give a minimum lighting source for the corals.

Once final exams are done, if the rocks are free of algae, i will glue the corals and take some pictures. I might also change a bit of the aquascape. I like the open look, but i also like to get more corals and might add a bit more rocks... :D

That sucks dude ! Velvet disease.

Have you read the following:

The most effective medication for the treatment of Velvet is the substance called acriflavine, also called trypaflavine. The cures against Ichthyophthirius are somewhat effective but should be used longer than for the treatment of ich. As there is a chloroplast in the organism some prescribe to covering the tank completely to shut out all light while treating, thereby denying the free swimming stage a source of energy while it seeks a host. Acriflavine may work effectively without removing light, however.

So it might be a good idea to kill the lights not only for the Hair Algae :)

Thanks Chris, thats some good information!! Can it be used in the main tank without harm to the inverts and corals?

Tanya72806: Thanks I will inform myself on how much it will cost to add that option in my system :)

Saltwater_Dog: Thank you but i still think there is a lot of work to do before i can sit and relax :)

After 3 days of almost no light, the caulerpa is stille present, even if i see some grape floating, there are still a lot left in the tank. Wondering how long i should go without harming the corals too much.

Hello Richard,

Could you please post some pictures so I could see/learn how you engineer the jackposts to support your tank?

Thanks

I think that biological control is the only way to get it....

+1

light starvation works wonders for diatom and pest algaes not macro so much.

Thanks for the support guys!

I might just start to pull them out from time to time, i am thinking taking all the rocks with algae on them to pull/brush everything on them and at the same time, remake a bit the aquascape.

Lorin: I have 3 big urchins in the tank, dunno if they are eating them but they are always on the rocks. I have 2 diadema urchin in the tank and one other that i dont know the name. Does yours eating grape caulerpa?

I did full up my FR509 with rowaphos and a bit of rowa carbon. My fuge light is ON 24/24 but my cheato seem to not be able to compete with the caulerpa :(
