600 Gallons System - i2ik's Journal

I hooked up a chiller to my system cause the humidity was getting so bad from the fans blowing over the tank. My room is sealed off just like yours with exhaust fans but it was still bad. Now that the chiller runs the system it's very comfortable in the room. Also it saves on a bunch of RO water if that makes a difference JMO. By the way very nice tank, I've been following from the beginnning.

Steve the plumb: The canopy was made by a company here in Quebec and was designed by me. It is very light as i can lift it by myself but would be much easier with 2 persons. I am going to cover it up but for now, i am still deciding on the material to use to cover it. I would be interested to see some pictures of what your cousin's wife can do! I am looking for a dark color, probably brown, almost black color but i am really open to any suggestions.

Tinytool: I had a 180G tank before this one and was also using some fans over the tank to blow out the heat generated from the lights, making sure that it was directed to the light and not to the water to cold the water down as i would have a lot of humidity doing so. I am wishing that i wont have to use a chiller on my system as i hate the noise and heat coming out from the chiller. My canopy will be an open top and back, thinking that might help a lot taking out the heat of coming from the light.

Thank you for following the thread from the beginning, i wish i could uptade it more often!

thanks sorry its my wife's cousin. He has a company in the south shore. He has imported and re desighned the paint kit they sold him.He can paint almost anything to make it look like chrome.I will get his web site if you want to ask him questions.I have seen some samples of plastic and glass that he painted to look chrome and it was very nice.I am not into chrome look but he has other colors. It made me think if I had a metal or plastic canopy he could paint it to match a stand.

hawaiianwargod: thank you! I had no idea that AO stands look like this but its an amazing product! I also love those fans, they look so slick! :P

Steve the plumb: sure let me know his website :) I would also love to see those samples of plastic and glass.

Bart: Here's some plumbing pictures ;)

On the plumbing part, i have a valve for water change, taking the water from the sump to bring it out, and i also have a valve to the media reactor that i am about to get. I was thinking getting the Deltec FR616, any opinion on that one? I had the Deltec FR509 before and it keep on blocking, hope it wont happened with the bigger model.

After 20 hours, my tank is 1/3 full with Ro/DI water. I will be testing the vortech pump probably tonight and at the same time mix up the salt.

I am about to order the sand, not sure between the Carib-Sea Oceans Direct Live Sand or the Carib-Sea Arag Alive Sand. Any opinion on this?

Still waiting for my missing part: the other pendant and ACLS unit and all of my bulkheads so i can start the plumbing... :(

sorry to go back and i don’t know if you have order yet but if you haven’t how about 50% of each! also have you looked at really live sand(not the bagged stuff but the real stuff from the sea(like live rock)) i know that they have it in the US I’m guessing you have it in Canada its just that it will contain critter, bugs and worms and stuff as well as bacteria just fort.
This is was I mean

hey i2ik,

the tank is looking awesome, i can't wait til it gets going fully (as i'm sure you are as well). i was just wondering what your local fish store was? i'm also from Canada but i'm finding it really hard to find places with ample supplies for reef tanks. its probably also cheaper to ship from Montreal then it is from the U.S.
Anyways, keep up the excellent work on your tank and post pics whenever you can!!
Cheers!

ssbreef: Thank you! Its a lot more work, much harder and much more $$$ than i though! :P

Flint&Eric: Stoking list: Not really sure yet but i am looking for a low nutrient level and i hope i wil able to make it. There is so many fishes that i am interested in! I for sure want a school of small fishes like bartlett anthias, maybe some cardinals which i dont know yet. A few rare/colorful fishes that we dont see usually in the LFS and butterflies. As some are into angels with reef, i would like to try it with some butterflies like the burgee's, Mitratus, Declivis (those are deep fishes and are more likely less problematic in reef apparently) and for sure the Copperband! As on tang, i am thinking about having 1 or 2 max. Some wrasses like the laboutei, mystery, Hawaiian flame, rhomboid, etc... well overall we will see with time :P I am definitely open to any suggestion :)

gig: as i student, many would rather buy a car instead of a tank ;) I can for sure keep on taking the subway to go to school or my A4 1998 with super green lime color :P Oh yup, its my parent's house :) Would not go anywhere else, love the family supper and the food my dad makes ;)

bad bager 1: You sure have a good idea but the sand have been ordered and i am waiting for it, maybe next week should be in!

Ironfan: No problem, i will take a picture next!

greg_mills: You will be able to find some great places in Montreal, but i am getting everything from a store name Worldfish. I am also working there from time to time to help out my friend which is the owner.

Here's some more update! Installed the light on the rack and i am pretty happy the way it turn out. I am able to play around and put them all to the right of left in case i need to put my hand in the tank for frags propably or push the lights all the way back to give even more space.

The fans are just at the right height to make sure there will be a good air transfert. Some modifications are still needed before i put the light rack on the tank.

Also, i took a picture of my skimmer getting feeded from the overflow and i am pretty satisfied! There is no micro bubble getting in the 2 skimmers :) On my way to put a skimmate exit on my skimmer head. Waiting for the right parts. I put a hole of 1/2" and its pretty tight with the acrylic cylinder.
