6000 arrived, now questions on the included mounting kit

The pieces that the long screws are supposed to thread into are not threaded? Is this normal? What's the steps for tapping the holes?

Hopefully the mounting kit for the AGA/Oceanic tanks will be here Friday. Slight mixup at PA, but I guess Tunze USA is going to drop ship the mounting kit.

Thanks all!

The mounting kit was sent 5 minutes ago. Ugh, I could have included the other part. If you have access to metric taps it is M5 thread. If not let me know and I will send one out to you. We sent the 3000.244 mounting kits by Priority Mail so you should get them Friday or Saturday.

Where did you get your taps? I bought some metric taps from Proxxon- they are for a motorized tap kit and they are the 3 flute style. My M5 tap shattered on some aluminum I was machining. I am looking for an alternative. For standard I have a craftsman set and while they say they offer metric they never have it at Sears.

I don't remember, the kits about 15 years old. I do very little tap/die work, normally when I just cross a thread. The kit was expensive at the time, about $60, but came with both SAE and metric taps.

Oh, it is 5mm 0.8 or 5mm 0.9?

It is just referred to as M5. My set has M2 M3 M4 M5 M6. Maybe it is best to wait until you get the screws. It sounds like a DIN standard came after your set was made. Over the years Germany has established a uniform standard for just about everything you can imagine and so there would only be one used now.

Hey Roger,

I've tapped the 5mm threads. What tap should I use for the shorter, larger, screw?

(Hoping the AGA/Oceanic adapter kit arrives today or tomororw :)

I was acutally wondering about the short 6mm screw. I guess the hole in the portion of the clip that alows the 5mm screws through unfettered should be left unthreaded?

Tap worked fine on both holes (other piece of the clip).

The short screw is for a different style mount and you won't use it. It is for a horizontal clamp and fits in the notch of the unthreaded clip.

Roger.

I recieved the mounting kits you sent, thanks bunches. ironically, when all was said and done, I mounted the stream to the overflow box on the back of my tank.

As you suggested, pointing from rear to the front glass gives the best overall turbulent flow. SPS are to'ing and fro'ing, and it appears I've got some form of flow throughout the tank.

One happy Stream owner here, now on to replace my POS skimmer. :)
