6000 gallon reef tank

mfp1016--very generous offer. that should tip the scales between his present inquiries in a 3Gl. nano and the mentioned 6,000 Gl. project.
BTW, are you undertaking this as a freebie and just out of curiosity, do you think designers of hydrogen and ethylene plants can just naturally can set-up big systems? I take it that offer isn't just based on your own 29Gl., which in all fairness, is almost 50% bigger than apple's.

Actually I use to have a very nice 125 gal reef, but sadly I had to move and decided not to set it back up until I am more settled. So, I've had a few years experience in successfully keeping many different corals. Actually, the design of those types of plants involve MANY related systems. And yes, I do think that designers of hydrogen and ethylene plants could easily design a large system like that (I'm one of them.) Designing a hydrogen plant is far more involved than any 10000 gal aquarium; companies like Technip, Fluor, and Jacobs all employ hundereds of people for the design of these kinds of plants.

Actually, if he was in the area....., I would love to offer consultation on the project, however doing so would be a violation of my employment contract, although fun....

mfp1016--Well, I don't doubt your intentions are noble and your qualifications are steller but building big aquarium systems seems to be best done by a track record of step-up builds with a lot of learning from mistakes made in the past input. Then with your background you would also understand the time commitment to such a project you are offering. What do you reckon 100 or perhaps 400+ hours?
If anyone is actually following this thread out of a true interest in building a large tank system may I recommend Mike Paletta's MACNA presentation on Building Large Tank Systems. It is both informative, wildly funny at times, scary and pragmatic. A great 1 hour watch. The really scary part is the tank is 1000Gl. and that is already a massive project.
Imagine 6,000 Gl.

Mfp1016, I am not apple, but thank you for the offer! It just goes to show you that people can take an interest in this hobby on several different levels. I can imagine, that apple has submerged because mainly the Neg vibes comming off the board. And I am just really glad to see Mfp1016 throwing in his offer. It's really cool if you ask me. That's the kind of team work I'd prefer to see. Although I must disclose that I too posted the first "can you believe how big this project will be," post.

I too would like to see this Paletta presentation. DVD anywhere?

I am interested in upgrading from my 90 to a 1 billion gallon tank.
Any suggestions?

buy a boat:D

Funy thing is, the guy that helped me bring my tank home told me that if it didn't work out, I could probably just mount an outboard on it and use it as a glass bottom boat!

I Plan on sealing the entire first floor of my house with acrylic, and adding water. Should be a fun project. Anybody done this befor? kinda lost, right now I have a 1 gallon tank with a goldfish, but this ones been alive for 3 whole weeks, and I def am ready to take it to the next level. By the way, Iam 13 and my parents are cool with it, as long as my paper route holds up, I might be able to take on another neighborhood if I wasnt hassled by the man everyday. For now, until I gather enough plastic, I have been making trips to the ocean after school on my bike, and stock piling water I take back in a squirt bottle to a holding facilty in my tree house.
SHould I get some MH lighting, or just use the existing lights that are already in the ceiling?

Coral magazine had an issue that dealt with the practicality and expenses of Large Reef Aquariums.
It featured the Atlantis Aquarium the cylindrical Aquarium in Berlin Germany and some others as well.
It would be a good inexpensive investment at this point.

BlueRoof,

Your feeback is pretty impressive. I have personally seen your 1200 gallon set up. My son and I have taken on a 125 FOWLR after viewing your tank.

Thanks for the inspiration!!
