6000 Stream has arrived

All of our pumps use the same basic motor housing so they are all about the same size +/- about .5" here and their for different intakes and outlets. They are roughly the size of a hagen 802 for comparison purposes. The 7410 is likely to look bigger as it has a large intake strainer- giving an overall height of nearly 10" The 7410/2 does have a swiveling outlet, as for the Stream the whole pump swivels. If you think about it logically, one of these pumps is going to replace 4+ Maxi Jets so you are saving space. Maybe it is just me but I wouldn't object to a nice BMW engine block in my living room- craftsmanship deserves presentation, for the same reason I don't mind looking at my pumps.

so i guess the stream would be smaller... plus it puts out way more gph... would i be able to mount it in a corner and swivel the direction of the flow i want?

You guys are terrible. :(

I called Premium Aquatics to order some DT's Phyto and ordered a dag gone Tunze 6000 to complement it. :mad2:

I should get it tomorrow. :bum:

mgk

You can mount it in the corner and it swivels about 90degrees. Remember though that 1800 gph from a 2" nozzle is whole nother ballgame from 600 from a 1" nozzle. Imagine if you had a 2" garden hose- the water would just dribble out. The Stream gives a very broad flow so it is much more diffuse and gentle than other powerheads- it sounds like alot but doesn't look as fierce as you might think.

I checked last night and it looked like Premium Aquatics still had the 6010's in stock so I bought one. Figured that I might as well have it in hand while I am designing a method to attach it in the tank.

Thanks for the help and putting out such a nice product!

I got my stream 6010 yesterday. Just thought I would show you how I decided to mount it. I forget what size hole I drilled but I do know that I was very happy to see that the power cable to the pump was removable from the metal box. That really simplified things for me.

As far as breaking it in, should I be running it at a constant speed or is it ok if it is hooked up to the controller and pulsing?

Thanks
-Barry

Very nice job photoberry. It does not matter weather you run at constant speed or pulse for breaking in. The pump will be fully broken in in about 6 months but most of the changes occur within the first 2 weeks. Some of this wear and some of it is the plastics response to water. I have to say photoberry you helped me alot with that nice photo of acrylic installation- very professional!

So the 6000's are comming in now. I wish to get two of these on a multicontroller. Can I get the Multicontroller 7094 to use on these or is there going to be a specific one to run the 6000's? You still say that this setup would be adequate for a 4x2x2foot tank? Its a 120gal going to be dominated by SPS however i do have sugar and powder sized sand basically. The top is a little bit coarser, but not much. Do you believe that this would be enough flow? Cause with the multicontroller i could adjust the flow speed if it was to much for my sand correct?
Thanks

Yes skeets, it would work, I have the same tank. I am hoping to upgrade to Streams soon myself but I would like to use the new Deco Stone Stream Holder. Anyway, the controllers enable you to do more than just slow the pumps down, this can be done without a controller, just a screwdriver to adjust the potentiometer on the pump computer which is integral and inline on the pumps cable. Their is still not a ready supply but I would expect 3 weeks delivery time.

Photobarry,

What is the diameter of the hole?

Rvitko,

My tank is 4 x 2 x 2. Can I place the stream on the back of the tank? Or will I have sand in the corners of my tank only?

Roger, what is the flow of these smaller units? Also, do you have any pics of the deco stone holder? Sounds interesting!!

I don't know the size of the hole off-hand but I can check when I get home. It is probably at least 1 3/8" if not 1.5".

Okay so to be redudant as usual then because sort of confused, can i buy that multicontroller 7094 and use it with the 6000's? Or am i going to need to wait for the specific 6000 multicontroller?
Wasnt sure if you meant that would work to my tank size or to the multicontroller.
Thanks

The 7094 can control the Streams, the electronic turbelle and the classic turbelle.

You can position them on the back corner and swivel it so it is aimed at the front corner.

I will post a picture of the stone when I return. The magnet holder is still too early in development. The stone should be available in a month. The magnet holder- if it is made- about 90% likely- will be available late this year, early next year.

The hole is 1.98" OD.

Oops, I forgot to check the size hole. I am pretty confident that 1.5" will work though. As far as drilling goes, I just use one of those bi-metallic hole saws for a drill. I first drill a pilot hole the same size as the drill bit in the hole saw to make sure that I get the larger hole straight. One neat trick to keep acrylic pieces from getting all over the inside of the tank is to tape a plastic bag underneath where you are drilling the hole. That's what I did and it worked great. I suggest that if you are drilling acrylic for the first time that you practice on some scrap material. It certainly isn't hard to do but I know that I feel better once I have practiced on something unimportant.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
