6000

Just needing a little advice.

I am wanting to get a Tunze 6000 for my 120 gl tank.
Dimensions: 4 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft.
For my size tank with LSP/softies and fish would the 6000 be too much for them? I was thinking of getting just one with a controller. I was afraid that 2 of them would surely be too much for my size tank.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks! Cindy

One would be OK if you have a strong return. It is generally best though to have two so you can switch the flow from one direction to the other and avoid dead spots. I think it should be OK.

To confess I always get Tyler and Taylor Texas confused in my mental map which is sad because I have lived in Texas all my life. If you live in the one that is near Austin, you might consider driving to AquaTek since they have a 120 display tank and you could see the different pumps in action.

Thanks for your reply,

Tyler is the rose capitol about 100 miles east of Dallas. I know what you mean. There are so many little towns in Tx that its easy to get some of them confused.

I don't have a problem with buying two of the 6000, in fact I like the idea of using to except that I was just afraid that 2 would blow my sand and LPS's around. I'm new at this(4 mos),in fact, I've never even seen a Tunze other than on the internet. I bought an existing tank but unfortunately I am having to remove the sand bed because of high nitrates and phosphates. I've been told its because of moving and using the old sand bed. My plans are to use South Down. Will using South Down plus my LPS and softies be a problem with 2x 6000? I guess my return is ok. The previous owner didn't use any powerheads, however without the 2 small PH that I have in my tank I wind up getting algae, cyano on my sand. 99.9% of it is gone with the use of these 2 little ones. The previous owner had no problems. I just don't want it to create a mess or be over kill.

Come visit Tyler sometime, its a beautiful town and it won't be too long before we have our rose festival. It's a very big deal here.

Thanks!
Cindy

SOunds great, I like roses quite a bit. Try contacting Melev since he has both styles of pump. He is active in DFWMAS and a Team RC member. He lives in Dallas and I would suggest seeing them first.

Thanks,

I'll be talking with him. He's built a timer and is going to build a sump for me.
