6025 shaft snapped

The shaft on my 6025 has snapped at the point where it joins the motor body. I presume the vibrations have caused it to weaken and shear.

Is this normal? Can I replace this part?

The motor would need replaced. How old is it? Warranty is two years from date of purchase with a receipt.

It's outside warranty.

Seems bad that:

a. a steel shaft can shear on a nano sized aquarium pump
b. the motor needs replacing for such a small fail. The steel shaft on other pumps usually comes with a replacement impeller so a more cost effective repair.

Is it actually a break or did the shaft pull free? The shaft is pressure fitted into the motor block. Roger can tell you more when he gets online.

It actually snapped. There was a small piece about 0.25" long left in the base.

Here's a picture of the stub:

This is no longer a possibility as we changed the metal of the shaft, but the oldest pumps could do this from 2006- early 2007. The shaft is not replaceable as the socket it presses into is stretched and a new shaft would not seat properly. I would contact Tunze UK and they will likely be able to get you taken care of at a very reasonable price.

The response from Tunze UK is that I need to purchase a new motor block (6025.100).

That doesn't sound like a cost effective solution for a snapped (rusty) shaft, that from the sound of it is recognised as a material fault and a problem reported by others which you guys have previously taken care of.

What are your views please?

I have no control over any other distributor. In the US I discount a complete new pump if the pump is more than 2 years old, since, much like all our products, there are perpetual improvements. A pump we made 3+ years ago, even if cosmetically the same will have numerous refinements and improvements today, the impeller, disk, front cover, clamp, motor shaft, have all been improved. We constantly improve. You did get several years of use out of the product and like any mechanical device they break down and don't last forever.
