6045 Question

Roger,

From what I have read, the 6045 changed from stainless steel to titanium alloy shaft in June 2007. Then in January 2008 there was a redesign of the magnetic holder and C-clamp because they were falling apart.

Is they a way to tell just by looking at them if a 6045 has the newer magnetic holder an C-clamp versus the older pre-2008 versions?

I recently bought 2 6045s on clearance from a store that advertised them as an older version, which I took to mean that they were not the latest version with the adjustable flow. Then I read about the problems with the pre-2008 models. So I want to make sure that the ones I purchased have the redesigned magnetic holder and C-clamp before I put them in my tank and that they haven't been sitting on this store's shelves since 2007. Is there a code or any other identifier that I should look for? I know they both have the titanium alloy shaft because there is a sticker on the box indicating so.

Thanks,
Ron

If you can squeeze the c-clamp hard without it breaking it is likely the new style. As well as the tabs on the clamp that seat in the magnet have a little extra plastic bump near where it meets the clamp making it thicker.

Any easy way to tell if the old one your worried about would be what color is the drive unit... what the propeller attaches to, if it's black its a newer one.

I would say the chances of it being the old style are near 0 and likely the old style ment non adjustable.

Thanks Shawn! Mine have the plastic bump on the clamp and the black drive shaft. I didn't want to squeeze the clamp too hard, but I think I'm good to go. For the deal I got on them, I wasn't sure how old they might be.

I went on your site and was looking at the Tunze arm length gloves that come in a 10-pack. Are those one time use gloves? Or are they durable enough for multiple uses? I have the Coralife gloves, but they are so thick that it is hard to work with them.

Thanks,
Ron

They are rather thin so I would call this one time use. Kinda depends on what you are wanting to do with them. If you are looking for something to just keep from touching things that irritate you they work well. If you are wanting to moves rocks around and such they will tear. I have heard of some leaking from the get go so if looking for something durable and always water tight these likely are not what you want

They generally only leak from the get go if a staple was accidentally put through them in packaging. As Shawn said though, they are light duty gloves, these actually veterinary birthing gloves, the type used to assist cattle and horses in giving birth or in doing artificial insemination. The clamp was actually updated in October 2007 and just for any future readers, if the box has the sticker it is good to go, this sticker was not added until 2008, after all updates were made.
