6055 on Controller

Slick Fork

Hi there,

Just had a quick question, I've got a 6055 set up with my profilux controller and I have the ability to set the wave type and duration.

Wave type options are sine waves, right angle waves. The wave duration I can specify in seconds.

I was curious what Tunze recommends the settings be? Will I run into any issues if I put the wave duration too short?

Thanks

I have not looked into these controllers before. Curious do these work similar to the Aquasurf for Neptune or the Tunze controllers speeding the pump up and down.... or does it shut them off and on completely?

In general the terms of the warranty do not allow for other brands of controllers. I would avoid a very short duration. Our controller can turn off and on the pumps as fast as one second but generally they are pulsed between two speeds and not completely turned off. I don't know anything about the profilux controller and how it will affect the pumps so I could not advise further.

The way I can set it up in the controller is to specify a maximum percentage and a minimum percentage. So for example I can say that I don't want the pump to go below 20% power and I don't want it to exceed 95% power. Then I can set the wave type as Sine (nice gradual ramp up from 20% to 95%) or a "right angle" wave which would give me very abrupt changes in power. Once that's done I can set the duration of the wave.

For example, a 10 second Sine wave with a maximum power of 95% and a minimum power of 20% would go from 20% to 95% power and back down to 20% in 10 seconds. So it would take 5 seconds to ramp up from 20% power to 95% power. The powerhead never actually shuts off unless I specify it.

It should never get less than 30% power, it can go to 0% but 0-30% is a danger zone that results in excessive noise and wear but other than that it sounds fine.

Can I shorten the duration to get more of a pulse? Also wondering about the Right angle wave, reading the description in the owners manual it switches quite a bit more abruptly. For example it might from 98% power directly to 45% power without any graduation in between, would that be too stressful on the pump?

Thanks

I don't know. I know that we recommend our controllers and our controllers don't have any program which could damage the pump. The shortest pulse our controller can do is 1 second.

Is there a spot on the web that I could find a description of the various programs the Tunze controllers use? It would help me set the profilux up to mimic them.

I don't need to do shorter bursts than 1 second, just want to make sure I won't hurt the pump by having it jump from one speed to the next.
