6060 Reverse Flow Question

I have noticed a pattern of behavior with my 6060 and was curious if this is normal. Basically, every time I pull this pump and clean it, it will have a problem restarting in reverse flow for a week or so. After it has a little buildup in/on it, it restarts fine. Am I doing something wrong? (BTW, the drive unit was replaced earlier this year)

Hello Jimwat, i don't think that is normal but you can put your hand to cover the nozzle and it will change the flow direction....

What drive unit did you replace it with? It must use a 6080.60, usually this problem as long as the right drive unit was used is either a missing 3000.612 oring or worn brake shoes.

I got the 6080.600, which I believe came with a new o-ring and shoes.

How often are you switching it off and on and how long has the drive unit been in use?

I purchased the unit 11/2006. The pump is turned off once a day during feeding (on average). I have been stop/starting it when I have the reverse flow issue and that usually corrects the problem in one or two tries (hopefully that is OK). BTW, I have the pump on an oscillator (WavySea), which is why I have been doing the stop/start instead of putting my hand over the nozzle (which requires me to stop/start/adjust the WavySea).

I would try a thorough cleaning as shown in the first thread in this forum, maybe something is locking the break shoes, some sand or lime. If that doesn't fix it let me know and we will get the parts out to you.

I cleaned the pump on Saturday and it is restarting perfectly now.
