Roger,
I purchased 2 6080's last year for my 180g freshwater tank. I have 10 Moba Frontosa. I have lots of holey rock and a sand substrate.
The 6080's are located at either end of my 180 g, 4" under the surface and 1 is pointed slightly forward toward the middle of the tank and the other slightly back.
Here's a couple of pics:
I use an auto timer to turn them on 4 times daily (6am, 12 noon, 5 pm and midnite) for 15 minute intervals only. The current produced by these 2 pumps gently sweeps my sand bottom and moves all the fish gunk to my Eheim intakes located at opposite ends of the tank.
My fish don't seem to mind the 15 minute intervals and actually play in the current. The 6080's keep my sand bottom spotless. My earlier efforts to use an undergravel jet system to perform this function didn't meet my needs.
Just wanted to say thanks for helping me out with your advice. I have shared my story with other cichlid keepers at the Cichlid forum and Cyphos websites. Lots of these folks are moving from gravel to sand bottoms.
I am sold on Tunze's. Great product.
