6095 or 6105 wide flow

Hello,

I have a 120gal mixed reef 4x2x2. I am looking to supplement my 6055 with either a 6095 or a 6105 with the 6205 cover. I worry that the 6095 will not be enough flow with the 6055. Does the 6205 cover on the 6105 really disperse the flow enough so that my LPS will not get blasted? I have no doubt the 6105 with the stock cover will be too much for my tank.

Can anyone comment on the 6095 or 6105 with wide flow cover in a mixed reef?

A 6095 has a 3ft by about 30" flow pattern, a 6105 with 6205.130 front housing at 24V has a 4.5ft by 36" flow pattern. The 6095 may be a bit short on reach, but with another pump is likely sufficient for an LPS and softy focused 120 and it is a much smaller pump.

I use the 6105s with the 6205.130 covers on my 120 with the same dimesions. I have alot of LPS, and they enjoy the flow. I was considering the 6095 for the smaller footprint, but I am concerned it may be a smidge too weak in my size tank. It definitely will not be too much for your tank. The 6105 stock covers would blow sand everywhere in mine.

Thank you for the responses.

James do you have to strategically aim the flow from your 6105 as not to blast your LPS? I am mainly concerned about my frogspawn, torches and BTAs. I'm running a sureflow Maxijet 1200 with my 6055 and it's a bit much unless aimed very well.

They can't be right in front of it, I have the Tunzes in the back corner aiming diagonally into the tank. They- and the torch I have- move around alot, but they like the flow. The flow from the wider shroud is very gentle after about 9-12 inches. I have the upgraded higher coltage jumper, and it is still not too much in my tank.

Sorry about that Roger. I was wondering if/when the 6105's will come with the larger shroud.
I was also wondering if the OP went with the 6095 or 6105 for his tank.

Every 6105 we have shipped since early November has included the wide flow nozzle in the box. It is now standard.

I am using a 6055 and a 6105 on my 120 gallon. The 6105 with the wide flow nozzle has the perfect amount of flow for my tank.

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking about the same combo on my 90.

I grew up in Geneseo, and have lots of family in Rochester, by the way.

Eric,

I am very happy with the flow from the 6105, the 6055 is probably under powered for my tank. I would be curious to set a similar sized tank with 2x6095s. The smaller foot print of the 6095 would be nice compared to the relatively large 6105. A single 6105 may be enough depending on your needs.

PS... I attended SUNY Geneseo, it is a great town.

I wish we got the same sort of support down this way. I recently bought the wider flow kit but had to pay a small fortune from the distributor.
Really happy with the result on a mixed 4x2 reef. Less sand storms.
