60g after the move

Keeping it Simple
Hello again, everyone! At the beginning of February, my wife and I decided to move out of our tiny apartment and into a town home. While I was looking forward to the move, I dreaded actually moving the tank and livestock.

In preparation, I moved everything to a 10 gallon, a week before the move...more like I crammed everything into a 10 gallon. :p Here's a pic:

Due to the fact that I didn't exactly pack out my 60g (that's understatment), the livestock actually wasn't too cramped in the 10g.

The 10g only had a Tunze 6025 Nanostream and 100w heater for equipment (and of course the 250w Radium). Once moved, they resided in the 10g for another week, while I continued to make enough water to fill the 60g. While they were in their small glass box, I noticed something. While the colors were not amazing (to say the least), they were growing WAY more than they were in the 60g. I can't be sure, but I believe I was starving the corals before. The colors were pretty good, but the growth was nonexistent and sometimes I would fight tissue recession. Lesson learned: FEED MORE while still striving to keep water relatively clean!

I decided that I wanted things to be a little simpler with the current setup. I loved my 30g breeder AIO, so that's what I decided to do with this setup. I'm not saying that it's the best way to go, obviously, but it's my prefered setup. :) Here's a pic of it empty and converted:

Also, I've been working on my LED chip and finally reflowed all the Cree XP-E's and Luxeon Rebel's onto the prototype. Please, understand that I am aware that the trace widths are on the border of being wide enough. I've changed the design, and when they are ordered for my light, they'll be with more than sufficient traces. Also, I'm aware that my soldering is sloppy; it's a prototype. :p

In the above pic, it's at 1%.

Finally, here are some pics of the current setup. Keep in mind that my returned pump failed and it's not running. The system remain this way until my new pump arrives. Everything seems happy. :)

The top pic shouldn't be so blue! It's more on the white side like the other two. My camera skills kinda stink. Sorry for the poor pic qualities; some were from the iPhone. Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to comment!

Kasey,
Long time bro, hope all is well, looks like the move was successful, corals look great, love the colors, looking forward to watching this one grow!
Regards,

Thanks Perry! I'm hoping that I can feed enough and keep it clean enough for good growth and color this time. :)

I took some more pics today and thought I would share them:

Up next, I'll be updating some more about my future light...

Hope you all enjoy!

Looking good Kasey! My tank has improved significantly in the last few months and I attribute it to feeding A LOT! You should be able to feed quite a bit with that bare bottom while still keeping things under control.

Thanks, Marty! I'm glad to hear things are going well!

With this setup, I'd like to add a few more fish. That way I'll feed them more as well, and hopefully, in turn, they'll feed the corals.

It seemed like the 10g had a good ratio of water volume to fish.

I really like the scape. Looks like what you would see snorkeling in the reefs. Big sacrifice giving up all that space?

Thanks! That's what I was going for, when I first set up this tank. The idea was to go with a handful of nice corals and let them grow, but that quickly turned into more than a handful.

No, I don't feel like it a sacrifice. It provides a lot of room for flow and fish movement. Also, besides liking the look, personally, it's nice to fill it in without killing my bank account! :p

Very nice Kasey!

What does your filtration consist of and how many lbs of liverock are you using?

Looking good, Kasey! Reminds me of the 30!

Congrats on the move!

Thanks, Jack! Yeah, I missed the simplicity of the 30, so I kinda took a step in that direction. I'm still using dosing pumps, ATO, and the Apex, but on the mechanical side, it's simpler.

Very nice Kasey!

What does your filtration consist of and how many lbs of liverock are you using?

Thanks, Sahin! Filtration is live rock, water changes, and a Bubble Magus 5.5 that is currently not running. The live rock is around 25 lbs (~11.3 kg). It's very simple, not much to mess up. :p

colors popping kasey, always a great sign, looking like you have things under control man! great job :)
Regards,
