60G ML Cube - 2 MP10s or 1 MP40

I'm still saving up the funds to replace my Koralia's and see alot of debate on this subject on all kinds of different tanks.

Just wondering what the best approach would be for my 60G cube (24x24x24)?

I don't want too much flow in the tank to make my sand blow and that's a major concern. I also don't want to spend more than about 500 bucks on powerheads so it's either 2 MP10s or 1 MP40. I'm using ESV White Calcium Carbonate Reef Substrate (Fine)

I was thinking one MP40 would be enought to eliminate dead spots in the tank and be more than enough flow if I wanted to upgrade my tank down the line but I wonder if the syncing of 2 MP10s would be worth more?

1 mp40 would be okay but 2 mp10 will be better. I started with one mp40 and noticed everything pulling to the side which had the mp40. when running two everything seemed a little more natural.

I am currently running two MP10w ES on a 45gal cube.

Over the past year, I have placed the pumps in various arrangements to find the best flow.
I've had them both on one side or the back and I definitely did not like it.
One on each side has been the most acceptable.
I used to run Tidal Swell Mode (Anti-synch @ 75%), but have been running Reef Crest (Anti-synch @ 75%) for the past couple of months.

Having a cube tank makes it difficult to achieve a nice gyre effect.
Since all the side dimensions are the same, you either get a whirlpool effect or the two pumps basically battle one another head to head.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Vortechs. It's the tank shape that makes it a challenge.

It would be nice to hear what arrangements others have with their pumps on a cube.

I don't run a ML 60, but a Glassgages 60 Cube cube. I have one MP40 and one MP10. I still have to upgrade the MP10 to the wireless version to sync everything. I think the MP40 is enough, but I had a MP10 laying around so I added it. I think it added enough to make it worth while. My 2 cents. I would always choose two pumps over one. You have a little more to work with. Two MP40 I think would be best, you can always dial them down.

Only problem with 2 MP40s is I don't want to have a grand tied up in my powerheads. So it's either 2 MP10s or 1 MP40. Still stuck on which would be better?

I have 1 mp40 due to my 1/2" glass. Otherwise would have went with 2 10s ... actually had to trade away my 10s for this 40.

I am with you 92 I have 75g 48in long I just put in one mp10 with my k4 it was really cool to see stuff moving needless to say I think I am going second mp10 route instead of mp40.
