60g plumbing Q (Input please)

Ok guys follow me here…

I am redoing my 60 gallon (48x15x18) and I need your input. I am thinking of using the Ehiem 1262 for the return and routing it in 3 directions. Two lines will go to the back left and right corners and be attached to bulk heads with lockline on the tank side. The third will be routed to the back center and attached to a Wavy Sea. How does that sound? Can the Ehiem handle this? Should I get a second pump for the Wavy Sea? Should I scrap the Wavy Sea and go with lock line there as well? My goal is to avoid having power heads in the tank.

Thanks for your help,

Scott

If you really want to avoid having powerheads than I suggest you get a way bigger pump.

The eheim 1262 can do it but the flow coming out of all 3 inputs will be weak.

i agree you wont get any real flow from that pump into the tank.. it will feel like a trickle...

Any other combinations you guys would reccomend? How about scrapping the Wavy sea and just using two drilled returns?

Or one drilled return in one corner and a wavy sea in the other corner?

I know I want to stay away from having 1200 gph going through the sump.

What do you think?

I prefer a slow sump, less salt creep, less noise, better for an in-sump fuge.

I do about 3x in my sump and then 17x via CL or Powerheads. For a total of about 20x.

I tried a fast sump once and I didn't like all the noise and splashing and bubbles.

Also in most of the reefkeeping books I've read they recommend not putting all of your flow through your sump. Though I can't see it mattering to the inhabitants any, it would just be for the reasons I've stated above I suppose.

As far as the Eheims, the 1262 was too much for the return on my 120. So I use a 1260 as the return on my 120gallon. For the return on a 60g I would use even less than a 1260. Then used a closed loop for your wavy sea and other returns for making strong varied flow.

Though plumbing a CL can be an undertaking, so I opted for Tunzes on a controller.

Or if you don't mind the noise and the other issues, you can run it all through your sump.

So many options, all depends on your personal preference I suppose.

You can ignore this post.

Go Kevin, I too like high turn-over rate. I run a QO 4000HH on a 40RR thru a sump and love it. Just right I think. Two 3/4" bulkheads thru two 3/4" Loc-Line "Y" as the return.
NO power-heads in the tank, nice.

Thanks guys. There are so many choices to make. I'm leaning towards the slower flow through the sump because I have it set up now with a Quiet one 4000 and I have to battle microbubbles and the noisy pump.

Another question. Fuge or no fuge? I'm thinking the tank will be SPS/LPS dominated.

Thanks,

Scott
