6100 chatters and alarms

I have a 6100 that doesn't have any calcium buildup on the impeller. It was running fine, I clean the impeller without dissasembling it, reassmble the unit and it runs fine for about 5 seconds. It then chatters a bit and seems to spit the impeller out about 2 mm and stops spinning. I'm guessing I need a new impeller ? Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Please go step by step through the dissassembly outlined in the manual or in the stickied thread at the top of this forum. It sounds like their is something mechanically amiss and just needs to be cleaned. Dissassmble the drive unit completely and clean all parts paying attention to the hole in the magnet and the upper bearing. Note that it is not necessary to unscrew the propeller and I don't advise doing so. Just pop out the brakes and the shaft comes off and that is as far as the top end needs to be dissassembled.

Bingo, it was a frozen rear bearing. I missed the fat that it came apart last night when I went through the FAQ. It's been running like a champ for :15 mins so I think that might have got it. If not I guess I'll package it up and send it to you. Thanks for the quick reply and congrats on the new place.

Well, the unit is chattering pretty good again and the impeller is clean, rear bearing free, with no other noticible abnormalities. I get a near constat ticking or chattering but it runs with no alarm. Any idea where I should be looking next ?

TIA

OK, likely one of the brake shoes is damaged or a piece of debris is in the brake shoe area, follow the instructions in the manual for removing the brake shoes and shaft assembly.

I read your post on cleaning the unit and didn't see where the shoe removal process is described. I also am not able to locate my manual at the moment. Do you have a link or a description of the shoe removal process ?

Turn the shaft while holding the magnet, the brake shoes will come out about half way and stop, keep twisting and they will pop out, be sure and do this somewhere well lit and where you can find them as occasionally they will shoot out and could be lost if you do it near a sink or somewhere that they could fall behind a table or desk.
