Roger:

I have a 6100 which I recently (about 1 year ago, lost receipt) replaced the motor on. Now it has started beeping whenever the controller turns it on. I tried cleaning the impeller and "well", even trying to run it w/o the impeller installed and it still beeps. Any ideas or do I need to return it for further diagnosis? This is the same pump I just a week or two ago replaced the drive unit on, so needless to say, I'm frustrated. Thanks.

Dave

Without impeller it is supposed to beep, the beep is triggered by a Hall effect sensor and without the magnet the alarm goes off. When you replaced the drive unit did you change every part that came with it? There are subtle difference in the bearings that can make a new drive unit incompatable with older bearings.

It initially worked just fine for a few weeks. I couldn't remove the bearing inside the unit, so that part wasn't replaced. Any suggestions how to get it out and I'll try to replace it also to see if that helps? Oh, and thanks for the quick response.

Dave

The bearing bush at the top is the main change, with the older drive units with brakes it was tighter. Basically a lot of the load was shifted from the bearing bush to the upper bearing so the new upper bearing is deeper and the bearing bush is thinner. Both should be changed but the bearing bush has the bigger impact because it is so tight when you put a new drive unit in an old bearing bush. The best way to remove the upper bearing is with a pick, you can buy a basic pick tool assortment at Lowes or Sears for about $7. The small ? shaped one works best. You can also use a deck screw, make sure all the calcium is removed first or you can break out the center and then it gets much harder to get out what is left.

Replaced it and it still won't spin the drive/impeller unit and the box still beeps. Next idea? Return it?

Yes send it in but send it in complete so we can test everything.

Hopefully you've received this by now and have had a chance to look at it. I'll be interested to learn what the problem is. Thanks again for looking at it for me!

Dave

Dave, we have your pump, we worked on it yesterday. Unfortunately we need a new motor which we have run out of until next week. They should arrive early next week and once I replace the motor I will be able to run more tests but until I can get it to come on I cannot run any further diagnostic tests on the driver, transformer and drive unit. I apologize we normally don't run out of spare parts.
