6100 leaking water

Hi,

A week ago I tried to contact Tunze Europe about a warranty claim for two 6100 streams using a warranty claim form found on the web page but I didn't get any response.

A year old 6100 stream started to lose it's power until it stopped working. I though that it was in need of cleaning but it wasn't. When I power it on, it blows water very weakly for few minutes and then nothing. Pump is clean, impeller seems fine.

As I tried to isolate the malfunctioning component, I changed the motor block to an another 6100 - controller. Motor block didn't work with that controller either.

However I noticed that the other 6100 stream, bought at the same time, was leaking water through the cable going to the motor block. There was small salt deposit inside the controller and some water was dripping very slowly through the power cord.

I'm thinking there may be some sort of manufacturing fault in the motor block that let's water inside the motor and this is the reason that the other 6100 motor block stopped working.

Both pumps are bought 2007/09.

How should I proceed?

Thanks in advance, Kimmo

Several of the office staff at Tunze had been out sick with a cold and I know Regina was about the only one in the office answering emails for a week or so and as a result they are very behind. They will answer, if you cannot wait for an answer I would send the pump to the factory with a note describing the problem and all your contact and return info. Typically this problem is caused by the cord not being sealed to the motor or having a tear in it. I have seen it on a couple occasions.

Thank you for the reply. I just wasn't sure if my request had been received since the web form at Tunze' homepage didn't send any automatic reply.

Will it be sufficient to send only the motor block and the control box - since the transformers are a bit tricky to get out of my stand?

If there is a manufacturing fault in my motor blocks will the warranty still cover them, since the warranty period had expired a few weeks before I noticed the problem?

Thanks.

Sorry that I bother you but this seems to be the best contact point to Tunze.

No problem, it is not a bother. I am not sure if they will cover it under warranty, the electrician will have to see the problem, it can also be that a fish or sea urchin chewed through the cable, it will really depend where the hole is and probably at a minimum you will get a discount. I think it is find to just send the motor and driver but please explain the problem, I suspect Leo Michelle will do the repair.
