6100 not working correctly

This morning when I went to check the tank I found that there was not output fron both my 6100's and that the 7095 had no lights on at all.

I took apart 1 6100 and did the usual maintainance, I connected it to a 7091 controller and everything was OK with this pump.

The other pump is a different story, I stripped it down and also connected a 7091 for testing purpose, the result was a slow clicking sound from the pump and very very poor output the 7091's leds were flickering.
I swaped over the control boxes, the drivers, the transformers and no matter what the combination, I could not get the 2nd pump to work.

The 1st pump did work with the control stuff from the 2nd pump.

Do you think that the motor block is faulty, the pump is about 20 months old..

Any ideas welcome.

I dont have any local dealers to try, I did interchange all the parts with each other and the only part that wasn't behaving was the stream pump itself.

I decided to order a new motor block this morning, but when I was fishing out the transformer from behind the tank, I was amazed to see that it had partly melted at one edge and the creamy epoxy like stuff was exposed and had leaked out. I suspend the transformer " ring" from string attached to the wall behind the tank. The string had cut into the body a little. I'm not suggesting the string had anything to do will the malfunction but obviuosly the transformer must have got so hot that the casing material softened enough for the weight to tug on the string.

The transformer even in this state managed to work the other stream.

Interestingly the driver is OK, I wonder what caused the fault, the transformer or the faulty motor block..

Guess this means I have to order a new transformer aswell as the motor block... :(

Rodger have you ever come accross this happening before?

Quite often when the driver or pump goes bad it overdraws the transformer and the safety cut off temp is higher than the point that the plastic softens. You should still be under warranty, I would send the pump to Tunze in germany or the UK distributor.

Just a thought... Do you think that I could still use the transformer. It sure would save me some cash, I could always buy the replacement next month and that way spread the cost a little...

Yes, it would probably be difficult to get warranty coverage but you may be able to arrange a discount. I would consider it dangerous to keep using the transformer, we almost always replace them unless the damage is very, very minor.
