6100 stopped, driver hot, and a deformed transformer

I ordered a Tunze 6000 2 pump kit from Marine Depot about 5 months ago.

Today one of the pumps stopped working (no beeps, and it was cleaned about 1 week ago). The transformer was hot enough to deform slightly, and the driver was hot to the touch. I can't get the pump to restart even after letting the transformer and driver cool. I checked the pump and there was no blockage that I could find.

The pumps are definitely still under warranty, but here's the catch: I ordered a Tunze 6000 kit, but the pumps all have 6100 listed on the housing. They came in a 6000 box.

What would you recommend I do? I would actually rather have the 6000 pumps, but I had already started using them by the time I realized that they were 6100s.

I would like to get both pumps exchanged from 6100 to 6000, but if that isn't possible, I'd like to at least get the defective one fixed. I do have the original receipt. Is this possible?

they are 6000's they use the same housing / no problem ,they'll make it good/ i think you will have to send it to tunze though

Just contact Roger tomorrow at Tunze USA and he will have it fix for you. As Spark said, they all using the same housing. All 6000 have 6100 motor and driver, the only different is the tranformer.

Yes, just send it in to me and I'll fix it within a couple days of receipt.

I was wondering this too. Got my 6000's and the casing says 6100. This is not a problem, since I only care they work.

Isn't there a problem with having improper rating on the outside? Says 15-45W for but is 6000. Also couldnt some people try and pass 6000's off as 6100's?? Just wondering. For a minute I thought Iactually scored 6100's for the price of the 6000's

The rating isn't improper, as a 6000 it uses 15w and as a 6100, 45w. The manual clearly shows the part numbers and what differentiates the pumps, it is a blessing, not a problem as it allows you to easily upgrade to a bigger pump.

"The manual clearly shows the part numbers and what differentiates the pumps". - it does.

I hadn't read that part of the manual. According to the manual, the pump and driver are the same, but the transformer is different. Does that mean that I can later switch out the transformer to get the 6100s as my corals grow (as sparks56 says)?

I'm certainly looking forward to getting the pump I sent in back - there is a noticeable difference in how my inhabitants look, and I'm getting detritus in areas I shouldn't be. :(

Yes, that is why we do it that way, you can upgrade and it is a modular system for us.

That's great! These pumps are awesome! Can you let me know what you find when you examine the pump? I'd like to know what caused the problem.

Thanks!

Roger, the same pump that failed before has stopped again. The second pump in the kit is still working and I haven't had any issues with it.

Again, there was no alarm before this happened, and I've been cleaning once a month since the last problem that I had.

The impeller was moving easily by hand when I removed the pump to see what was wrong. I'm wondering if there is something wrong internally with the pump that wasn't obvious the first time I sent the pump in (only the driver was replaced, not the pump). I'd expect since the impeller doesn't move that the alarm would be ringing when the pump is plugged in - but it does not, and the impeller spins freely.

What would you recommend that I do? It is still under warranty.
