6100 - what was I thinking?!?!?

I liked the idea of a relocateable powerhead, so I asked my local dealer for one...he, of course, was happy to sell me the 6100 setup. I had no idea what the cost was on it but pulled out a credit card anyway!

Right now I've got 4 maxijet 1200 in my tank to move water around and have thought about replacing some or all of then with the 6100. It's MUCH bigger than I thought it was going to be (yeah...I'm learning) and rather than making the thing even bigger by using the magnet holder, I've looked at that ceramic rock housing instead.

Anyone use one of those at all? Is the unit aimable within that housing?

I've also heard that the only difference between the 6000 and the 6100 is the transformer. My tank is only 72 gallons, would I be better off replacing the current transformer with one that would convert this thing into a 6000?

What type of corals are you keeping? I purchased the magnet and I did not like it at all. In my 58gal I have 1 6000 in the right corner and a MJ1200 in the left both aimed about center on the front glass. I also have a seaswirl running about 300gph and a MJ 1200 behind the rock work.
If you post a pic of your tank it would be a lot easier to give advice on placement and settings.

Nice tank! I would use one 6000. It will give you the right amount of flow, a 6100 is too much. They aren't small but they are definitely smaller and neater than 4 pumps. The only difference is indeed the transformer.

rvitko is right about the recomendation. I would position it in the top right back corner and point it 3/4s across the glass with the pulse set to 50%-100% at 6-8second pulse.

Wow, are you suggesting that I can get rid of ALL my other powerheads and just use the 6100? I do have a wave maker that randomly (somewhat) turns on and off the current maxijets.

This is all kind of new to me, it being my first tank, and there isn't a lot of info out there about recommended setup for powerheads and current movement within such a closed environment.

I would use 1 6000 not a 6100- that is too much. Jhammond is making a good offer, you just need to swap the transformer to the smaller 11V version to make your pump a 6000.
