Hi,

I have a 6100 with a 7240 controller.

It started beeping which usually means I have to clean it.

I took it apart completely, cleaned it and let it soak in some vinigar. After 24 hours and a reassembly it still doesn't work.

I took the drive out and put it in to my other one and switched the controller and thy all work.

Is there something in the body of the unit that could have died?

Yes, it is possible that something happened to the motor. Have you gone through the cleaning thread at the top of this forum though just to be sure you did not overlook a small detail. The main culprit of these problems is the upper bearing is stuck to the magnetic rotor so instead of freely spinning on the bearing it has to drag it.

Yea, I went through and checked all that and then put the whole
drive into my other one adn took the working one and put i tinto this one. Still no go .

Can the be repaired or is it paperweight?

It can be repaired, it isn't a big deal. Just send it in and within a couple weeks you will get it back repaired.
