6200 drive shaft failure twice?

I have had this 6200 running for about a year with no problems. In the last month the white drive shaft has twisted off twice. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? I am certain nothing is entering the unit. I also clean this pump every 6 months.

Is the shaft intact and just falling off or is it broken? If broken is it a jagged break or a sawed off looking break?

it is more of a twist off break. It really looks like something is holding the prop while it tries to turn. However there is no way for anything to hold it. It is impossible for something to get into the prop area

Any ideas?

No, the usual culprit of a rough break is stomatid snails, they move fast and get in through small openings and tend to go unnoticed. These are the small black half shell snails that look a lot like a slug. Besides that I really don't know what could cause it. I assume you are using the screen and that is why you are sure nothing entered? I am puzzled as well as the plastic is not exactly fragile, it takes a fair impact usually to cause this.

I would think it would have to be a decent size to stop the prop. It has to be a huge force because I agree they have to be very tough to agree. perhaps it is an urchine spin. That is all I can come up with. I have one on order so no worries I was just puzzled.

What are the chances that the 6200 spinning backwards allowing the prop to pull out and crash into the shrowd? The brakes come out like they should when spun backward by hand. however when it cycles you can here is click everytime it turns on. It is a pretty decent thud. Looking at the prop it is not moving out however it does seem that the end bearing closest to the prop is a bit loose.

It cannot spin backwards the electronics prevent this. The brakes movement should be restricted by a 7400.61 O ring, they move but they should be very tight. Depending on how old your pumps are they may not have this, this oring was added about 18 months ago. I can send you a couple. The upper bearing may be the cause, if it comes off it can saw through the shaft over time. I can send you a new one of these as well and I would include a shaft since your description makes it sound like it could be a flaw that is our fault.
