6200 Very Loud when plugged into7094 Controller?

I have a pair of 6200s running on a 6074 multicontroller. The units have been running for the past 3 years perfectly and still run great. I cleaned both pumps this week and reinstalled them in the tank. I notice that they have become increasingly noisey over the past 2 nights. When I unplug the streams from the multicontroller they increase to 100% output on both sides and the noise is reduced to their normal operating levels. Is there some reason why they are so loud. I need to do something as they are annoying if you are in the same room and I can't imagine how bad it must be for the fish inside (I assume they can hear).

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

If they still have the original drive units they probably have worn to the pont they need to be replaced, it is part 6200.70, they run about $40.

Thanks for the response. I read the cleaning thread that is stuck to the top of the forum and one of my 6100's has the older drive with the red rubber gasket and the other does not. Will the replacement drive you quoted above work in both? It is actually the older one that is the source of the noise.

They should both have the red oring under the upper bearing on both drive units. The 6100 uses 6100.700.

Installed the new 6200.700 drive units this morning and I am pleased to announce that both units are back to their original sound level. I also discovered during this process that the photocell for my 7094 controller was not working. My tank has been on night mode for about a year. Anyway, I also installed a new photocell and the wave action is alive and well.

Thanks for the assistance.

I just noticed that I actually ordered the wrong drive unit. I was supposed to order the 6100.700 for my 6100 streams, but, I accidentally ordered and installed 6200.700 drive units. They are working fine and are virtually silent so is there a long term issue with this? The units looked identical to the 6100.700 on the Tunze website.

The propellers are bigger and draw more current than the transfrmer and motor can handle long term. Eventually they will burn out. You can likely pull the prop off the shaft and put your old ones on the new drive units assuming they are in good condition.

OK I see the difference. I switched them with the old ones and they fit on the shaft no problem. I did notice, or maybe it is in my head, a slight increase in the noise. I will order the replacement props for the drives. It will be way cheaper than sending them both back for replacements if the prop is the only difference. Would having a few nics on the props increase the noise level?

Now that the photocell is working properly, I can actually turn them down a little bit and see if that makes it any better.

If the pops have nicks in them it will increase noise, you can probably smooth them out with a nail file or some 400 grit sand paper.
