6201 transformer light flashing

I have a 6201 that stopped working last night.

I noticed the green light on the transformer was flashing instead of on permanently. I took the unit out of the water to see if it was jammed but it seemed fine. In fact I thoroughly cleaned it only 2 weeks ago, as I do regularly.

Any ideas?

A flashing light usually indicates a motor problem. The pump is drawing more power than it should causing the power supply to shut down. Send in the pump and we will replace it, I would include the power supply just to be sure unless you have another pump to test it on.

Any chance a local Tunze rep in Australia could take it back and replace it rather than sending it to you in the US?

Yes, my mistake, I didn't realize you were in Australia. I would contact AquaDepot, all of there contact info can be found on the Tunze website.

I purchased my 6201 from the USA off an ebay store. Unfortunately I lost the electronic copy of the receipt when my laptop died.

Tunze Australia are refusing to service the item under warranty without any proof of purchase, despite the fact I believe the 6201 has been available for less than 2 years. I've had mine for only 18 months. Now I have a working transfomrer and a dead pump.

Shame you don't work over here Roger! :(

I would try to work something out with them. Please understand that they are trying to stop grey market importing, Tunze only reimburses them the part on warranty repairs, they have to pay to ship the part from Germany and any duties on the part, basically if they fix it for free and you didn't buy it from them, they are taking a loss. I have the same problem here occasionally but it is rare and the US is a bigger country so we have more sales to offset taking a small loss occasionally. But we are expected to provide for the labor and shipping of repairs from the profits off of our sales, and without the original profit, they can't help without being in a loss position. I would be certain you could work out something but you will have to pay some sort of labor/shipping fee. These problems are exacerbated by customs regulations that let you get a single pump duty free, but charge them full duties on the container load they import.

Tunze Germany will service it for free as will I, but you would have to pay shipping both ways which would likely be very expensive.

Thanks Roger.

I was happy to pay the $70 they requested for warranty repairs on an item not purchased in Australia, and I can understand why.

What I can't understand is why they refuse to do anything because I can't find my receipt.

This 6201 has only lasted 18 months. I also lost a 6100 within the last 6 months, which was only 3 years old!

I have 2 eheim pumps that have been working great for 17 years! Just like the streams they were expensive to buy but worth every cent.

I expected better from Tunze Australia, but they are sticking to their guns, and I quote: "no proof of purchase, no warranty reapirs", despite my willingness to pay the $70 labour charge!
