65W Costco Fuge light

If anyone is looking for a good fuge light, the LOA 65watt 6500K PC flood light is back at Costco for only $10. I've used these things for my 40g fuge for a while now and they grow chaeto like crazy. The only problem is that the bulbs only last about a year if you run it 24/7, and hard to find replacement bulbs. So I stocked up on a few units. Just thought I would pass on the news.

I bought one a while back but haven't use it. Just to let you guys know, it doesn't come with powercord. You have to wire it yourself.

That's sucks....I rather not wire it myself..Fire trouble.

Its actually really easy. you can buy everything from orchard supply. Buy the power cord and the twist cap that hold wires together. You just twist the wires together and screw on the cap then use electrical tape to wrap it. There should never be fire risk unless you somehow get it wet. Then when one unit dies, you take the cord off and put it onto the new one.

Yeah it's very easy man. Buy me one, I will wire it for you.

A regular computer powercord is good enough. You IT freak should have a lot of those :D ..

You can also order replacement bulbs from the LOA website. Last time I did it they were 9 bucks each.

The wiring is a snap. If you were ever looking for a simple entry level DIY, this would be it! :D

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm just paranoid when messing with elecrical stuff. Although, I used to watch McGyver when I was a kid...got hurt on occassion but I managed.

I guess you could wire it for me Phong...;)

why buy a replacement cord and pay shipping all that when you can buy the whole thing for 10bucks?!
Thats damn cheap!

You don't see this everyday at Costco. They only have it like one or two times a year. That is for the Costco near my house.

if these are the same one that I used to have with the light sensor, you can do a simple mod buy cutting the sensor wire out from the assembly and running it up to your display lights. So when display lights go off, fuge lights come on.

I am ressurecting my 35 Gall Hex to use as a temporary tank while I move stuff around but I think it will become a QT tank. I will be QTing SPS in it in the future.

Do you think this bulb will be high powered enough to QT just about anything? I'm thinking I'll have to put sps fairly high in the tank.

How long would one typically QT a Coral?

That's a great idea Dannieboiz! If implemented this way, one can eliminate the use of a timer right?

yup that's the purpose of it. But looks like this doesn't have the sensor.
