70 Mh Diy??

Hello everyone,

I was planning on a 10 gal nano with mostly rics, shrooms, and zoas, but mayne some sps as well. I def. wanted to go with a 70 watt MH over the tank. I stumbled on a DIY a while ago, but I, like a dummy, forgot to print it out. Does anybody know of any 70 watt MH DIY plans? I know it used a security light from lowes or something.

I know its vague, but thanks for any help!!

I'm not sure if the 70w bulb will fit, but I got the bracket & reflector for a 150w from:

I'm also looking at www.HIDirect.com for the ballast. They give you 5% off and free shipping. A 150w DE ballast kit runs 48.59 after the 5% off.

And I read that reefshops.com has good prices on bulbs.

Not a pure DIY, however illuming.com has a 70W retrofit kit that is pretty compact.

Here you go, I am doing this just waiting on my ballast. The only difference is i'm doing a 150w version, all you have to do differently is modify the brackets and put some holes in the fixture for air flow. Also I'm using the Regent 500w halogen.

i know what you're talkin' about for the DIY light, i built one using a security light fixture and a ballast i got off e-bay for like $35, so if you can find a cheaper ballast you can do it pretty easily

Do any of you know much about what you would need for a 150W bulb?

At least as far as the sockets are concerned. Sizing, the same?

Nevermind. I'm digging further and finding some of this info, though it's not easy to come by.

I was at HD the other day, looking at 8$ halogen fixtures wondering if this would work..

For the sockets I've seen people take out the bracket and modify it or just buy 150w sockets and retro them in. The 150 is a little longer than a 70w.
