This info can be found earlier in the thread.

I used Aiptasia-X that wrecked havoc in my system. I lost three fish and yes I followed the instructions. I would recommend not using it if your system has an RBTA or a Ritteri like mine.

hello, i have been reading this in my breaks at work and it has taken 2 months. but why do'not you use Aiptasia-X, http://www.redseafish.com/Prod296.asp.

I've seen this tank, and it would be very hard do find every aiptasia and even harder to reach it. Looks good carl. Where do you find these colonies for your tank?

when we built the house i put a 1200 gallon cistern buried in the front yard, it is piped into the garage with a closed loop and a line that goes to the tank. for a water change i open a valve and pump water into the sump.

to let water out of the tank i open a valve over the sink that you can see here and let the waste water run down the drain.

for top off water i just run water from my DI unit into a 44 gallon trash can next to the tank and then i scoop it out and put it in a 5 gallon bucket that has an airline valve on it that drips into the sump.

it is not automated at all.

in the morning i add 150 gm of carbonate to the top off water and in the evening i add 100 gm of CaCl.

i have tried it and not really had success with it. they are hiding all over my system. i am trying to culture some Berghia to eat them. so far i have not seen any babies, only the mature ones in the culture tub.

i have had some luck injecting them with HCl. it is much cheaper than the bought products and as good . i can do that with the pumps on as i only inject them with a needle. the kind of fizz and disappear. sometimes they come back.

this is purely anecdotal.
a friend told me over the weekend that Joe's juice is a pesticide. i have no idea if this is true. it is too bad they don't list the ingredients on the box.

she used three bottles in her 400 gallon tank and lost 15 acro colonies soon after.

thank you.

it is still a work in progress. i think i am just about done with the hardware.

in the photos above i got the red Echinopora from a fellow hobbyist. the rest i was lucky enough to go to the wholesalers with a friend who is a pro.

i had not used carbon in a few weeks since the pump on the reactor quit. i put four cups in a filter sock a couple of days ago, rinsed it under fresh water and put it under a return line. wow, what a difference it has made in water clarity in just a few days.

Reading the current posts about Joe's Juice and Aiptasia-X surprises me. Perhaps those people used a lot of it once, raining down nuclear-war on their aiptasia population instead of hitting a few each day.

I've used both, as well as boiling water, vinegar, and kalk-paste. I've not tried Muriatic Acid yet, but currently my tank seems to be aiptasia-free due to the peppermint shrimp I have. Nothing else explains their disappearance better.

Carl, your house looks so much better than that picture above. :D

very interesting thread.

I would like to see the surge in person, but Colorado is a little too far away.

Carl's tank is worth the trip, you should come on over this weekend :D. This is the nicest tank I've seen so far. It's as natural as a reef tank can get, he incorporated all the different biotopes in his system, definitely can learn a lot by seeing his system.

hello carl the tank you have in your front yard is this for water changes? and do you have saltwater deleiverd to your house to keep the tank full? or mix it?

it is for salt water. i am lucky enough to live ONLY 100 miles from the University of California at Sata Barbara. they have a big marine science dept and pump in sea water to use throughout their system. they make it freely available to all to get.

i have a big truck for my business, at least for now, that i go get water in.
i can get about 1400 gallons at a time now. these are some of the containers.

That's cool. It's a good thing you can get 1400 gallons of water since you're going "ONLY" 100 miles. How long does that last before you have to make another trip?

it lasts about 3 months. it's very pretty up there. they pump about 800 gallons per minute through their system and out into the lagoon.

Hang in there, Carl. Business is bound to pick up again.

i've come to the tough decision to turn my koi pond into a pool. that will save me about $800 a month. no small amount today.

we have several more months of hot weather here. it won't rain in Los Angeles until December and then the average is only 1". most of our rain is only in january and february.

summer is usually slower for roofing but this year it isn't slow, it is dead.

i may not have a business by the time it starts raining.

marc, i am thinking of becoming a stripper. can you give me some lessons? i may be a bit old for a new career though.

the good news is without the koi pond my solar system should meet the needs of my reef tank and other electric needs. so i won't have to give up the reef tank.

if i had discovered reefs first i may not have ever had the koi pond.

if i ever move i may have another pond.

i still have a 2000 gallon pond to maintain at my wife's office where i will take some of my favorite fish and totally overstock her pond.

Carl

After seeing your pond, I'm tempted to take a few kois off your hands and get back into the koi hobby again. I got rid of all my koi pumps and filters. Will need that before calling you.:p
