yes, at least for now. there is still much plumbing months down the line. for now you know it will run without overflows, sump, skimmer, lights or pretty much anything but pumps, LR and freshly seeded sand.

now i have to get out there and work on the LR.

Really nice... I have a few questions on the Skylight though... Did you have to have it custom made? What is its exact size?

here is a shot from the roof down before we put the skylight on.

finished the roof yesterday around the skylight. the posts are for the solar system to be installed in the next few weeks. about 9 KW system.

just in time as today the biggest storm since 2005 is due to hit.

the skylight should be easy to keep clean from the deck. just need to do it.

in the back yard the deck over the pond has been great to do the construction but i am looking forward to it being gone. no way i can catch a fish with the deck in place. soon stucco will be done and lights up then it can come down.

Interesting. My cousin Donn has his house extending over his koi pond a lot like your temporary deck.

So I take it you didn't get that paint from the Israelis that generates electricity! :lol:
 
the second floor cantilevers out to the edge of the pond.

so the second floor becomes a kind of roof over the first floor deck by the pond.

Mate, that skylight is awesome. It's good to see people using them. I'm thinking the same or tubes, but's a project for much later on.

Are you being made to put in the photovoltaic system, or is a choice? I looked into them 12 months ago, but the cost was rediculous for the amount of energy that it generates.

Love the koi pond.

thanks, i too love the Koi pond although if i had discovered reefing first i probably would only have a reef tank. much more interesting with the whole ecosystem thing.

and it is in the house where it can be enjoyed in the living room.

and it is cheaper. i have bought most of my Koi when they are babies, one year old and they are still more than any reef fish i have bought.

reef fish don't eat two pounds of food a day!

koi pond turn over rates are only about once every two hours though. i will probably have more watts running the pumps on the new tank than the 20,000 gallon koi pond which has three pumps totaling about 16 amps per hour, 24/7.

nobody can make you put in a solar system in america. it is pricey but it will pay for itself in about 7 years, and then it's FREEEEEEEEEEEEE! worth every penny.

I had no idea a koi pond was so expensive, more than a reef tank with all the equipment and electrical power consumption? wow

awesome setup!!! I love the koi poind and the reef tank together, I always wanted to do something like that, someday I hope I can :)

It's not compuslory in Australia either, but due to changes in the building code, solar makes it soooo much easier to pass. I looked at the 5kwh unit. $16000, minus govenment rebates makes it $8000, but I though I could build my house more energy effecient to cut down on the use of electrictiy.
I just don't know if these unit's are as effecient as they make out, considering if your not facing true north, you've already lost effeciency. It will be interesting to see how you find yours, in regards to power use, might change my mind.

ya, i'll have to dry them out and make fish jerky. i have not eaten carp but is is the most eaten fish in the world. just not here in the US.

every new group of construction guys have said "tomorrow i'll have to bring my fishing rod". i tell em just bring your checkbook too! if i had $1,000 everytime i have heard that i could have paid for the remodel.
