what a deal. some of the fish on that web site you linked are pretty steep.

yeah, to the tune of 2K!

Your pond is setup great to keep out predators, with the vertical walls.

My dog would stand on the plant shelf ~10-16" water, and bury his head under water to grab a fish. Quite a sight, a dog blowing bubbles under water. Once he got one, he would run around whimpering, like he didnt know what to do with it. Never could train him to put the damn thing back in the water, lol.

He was a Australian shepherd mix. He was a great dog, and our other 2 dogs are rescues as well. Its a great way to get a pet, and a good lesson for the kids too.

How'd you weather the storm? We had crazy wind blown rain everywhere.

storm was fine. lots of wind and rain for us here but no problems.

city building codes made me get permits, inspections, etc. for pond and build it basically like a pool so i built it like a pool. except with a lot more elaborate filter system and much higher turnover rate. it has some steps at the 4 foot end and goes to 9 feet at the deep end.

This should be interesting! I wish you the best of luck with the tank. I am looking forward to seeing how you finish off the room the tank is in.

i have made only a bit of progress on the tank.

we got some of the rock drilled out with 2" holes to go over the closed loop returns. also got some 3/8" holes to go over the rods to build the pillers.

the pipe over the return is to hold the rock off the bottom of the tank because there will be a 6" DSB.

the mesh is the closed loop pump intake.

this is going to be part of the sump, the two bins and tank over. the sump is still at least a couple of months away.

Reef power, installing the solar electric system this week, about a 10KW system. 46 216 Watt panels.

that's all for now.

so cool. nice progress. I like the way you plumbed the yard tank. In Venice you might be able to send some power back into the grid! :D

That's pretty hardcore using a core bit on your rock. Pretty smart.

Each Sharp panel costs $875, plus inverters etc. the whole system is about $50K for material plus the labor to install which is a few thousand. however there are state and fed rebates plus a rebate from DWP. so i am not sure yet what my final cost will be.

in 6-7 years or less it will pay itself off in cost savings and then it is FREE. maybe then i can retire and still have my hobby.

Just curious... rather than using solar panels to make energy for the ballasts to run the bulbs... why not just use skylights for the tank?
