Wow, I am now starting to like the BB look. I have never really liked it much, but yours looks perfect!!!!! I think you have to have a very large tank for the BB look to be ok. The overflows make the tank look crazy tall. The tank has turned out very, very nice!!!! Awesome job!

Samson78945-Thank you and I am sure some day you will do something similar and better. The addicton to this hobby makes anything possible!!

Brandan-Thank you also!! My 450g had sand and I could not keep it up like I should have so I went with the BB and it has worked out well for me. I know it's not for everyone but I like mine.:)

You've done a beautiful job keeperz. I really enjoy your fish selection. People go frugal on the reef fish to lower maintenance, but it just isn't the same. I like to see all the colorful fish fleeting about, bobbing and weaving throughout the rock work as they do on the actual reef.

Thank you Funkie-keeping a low nutrient tank along with a good amount of fish is the ongoing challenge, no doubt. I agree, fish movement is an attraction on any reef!!

I would suspect the lack of substrate would bother it before the flow.

Love your rock layout.

you are going to really stress out that stingray if you dont have sand in the bottom of that tank. they use the sand to sleep in and hide in. that is one of the major things with having a stingray is the sand.

Thank you Ihoy,Spazz and LOL Jnarowe-

Ok, so I guess he'll be good with the flow of an sps tank but will prolly not like the BB. Is this any different then having wrasses that like to bury themselves or fish that should have a larger swimming areas and we do it all the time? I ask because I think we all go against the grain of what's natural, not being sarcastic, just looking for your continued thoughts-thank you

seems cruel to me to keep that fish in that tank. i would like to see how it fares over the few years.

it is cruel to buy/keep a fish that can not be kept in that tank for a natural lifespan.

Love your set up mate.

As for wrasses, i'd only consider them if you plan to add sand. I have a canary wrasse, and every night it buries itself in the sand. If for some reason it gets stressed its the same deal. I would reckon the same for the ray, but it may find a way to cope.

Cheers

I want to keep Haliocheres wrasses and thus I have a thicker sand bed than I would otherwise. I place corals and by things based on what they need and that means I forgo some things I would like.

I do think you will find that this ray will suffer significantly without a sand bed.

I know it is hard to pass up somethings, it is beautiful.

So far the ray has learned to eat from my hand which is a good thing since some of the wrasses get pretty aggressive when it's time to feed. The rest of my fish have gotten used to having a ray in the tank for the most part, especially the neon gobies who love to hitch a ride and clean him. No signs of stress as far as I can tell, other then wanting to eat alot.
