7091 stopped controlling...

Roger,
I have a 7091 that I have had about a year, give or take. The controller worked great and then just stopped working. The LEDs change like it is pulsing, but the powerhead is off. IF I remove the controller, the powerhead stays on full speed.

Any ideas? I have a 6091 that sits right next to it, and it is working fine.

Thanks,
Bryan

I took the controller apart and found a small bit of salt got into the box and has corroded one of the circuits on the board.

what can I do, should I attempt to soldier it, or send it to you?

WarDaddy,

Usually salt damage destroys the circuit boards you are most likely up or a new 7091.
a reminder to all to keep electrics away from moisture as much as paossible.

Graeme

As Graeme said but it may be worth trying to clean it. The best method is to use very pure water, distilled or RO DI. Wash the board, you can use a gentle brush that is clean. Then immerse the board in 90% or greater isopropyl alcohol, you can usually buy 91% at the drug store. Blast it with compressed air to dry it and let it set for a few hours until completely dry, then try again. If it is still toast I will discount a replacement.

The board is clean, one of the stamped circuits on the edge of the board has corroded through the sliver solder and then through the copper under that.

The rest of the board is in great shape, just that small, 1/8" area.

Roger, I will attempt a repair and get back to you.

Thanks
