70G STARPHIRE - Custom.

Grimstalk

In Memoriam
Alrighty, new tank arrived last week from Extreme Marine of Toronto, On, and I'm in the process of setting it up today.

The tank was hand build by Ryan Landry of Emarine. Along with Ryan, Archie (RC TOTM) and Luis have be instrumental in making things go smoothy. Unlike my first tank (45G), I won't have to buy everything twice :)

Specifications;

- 70 G 48"Lx18"Wx20"H, Centre drilled with overflow.
- 35 Gallon Sump
- Gen-X 6000 submersible pump
- Metal Tube stand.
- Aqualight Pro x2 150W MH, x2 96W PC
- H&S Skimmer 110-F2000 (105g in-sump)

The old 45 Gallon, being taken down today and transfered to the 70G

question, I believe I have a pistol shrimp in the 45 gallon (always hear clicking sound)...I don't believe it's a mantis. Anyway, can this pistol cause me a problem when I'm moving tank tank contents.Should I get some rubber gloves in case he wants to take a stab at me?

I dont know anything about the pistol. I just removed a mantis from my tank today. But I wanted to say nice 45g and cant wait to see the bigger tank setup

looks like emarine did a good job, archie's a real nice guy. I just got my custom starphire 75g from Miracles in mississauga

I still have cloudy water (running cannisters to help clear up) from the 1" of sand and I need to change the tanks over today.

Will this sand harm my coral or inhabitants?

I'm bring the temp and salinity up to match that of my 45G..so I'll be okay in that regard. I will also be adding 1" of aragonite on top of the sand (from the 45).Any problems associated with this or should I ditch the aragonite?

Cheers,
Jaret

Here is a pic as of a coupel hours ago. I ended up not adding all the aragonite from the old tank as it was just too dirt. My tank looked like mud...although it didn't smell nasty. All the coral is just thrown in..I'll aquascape later. Fish seems to be doing well. I don't think they liked the refugium.

Anyway, it's cleared up. The Gen-x 6000 seems a little noisy. I'm not sure if it's typically that way, or perhaps the impeller is off balanced. I have it set to lowest flow as anything higher turns the tank into crazy flow. I think it may be a bit oversided for a 70 gal. If you gen-x'ers can give me some feedback it would be appreciated.

Don't have experience w/ the GENX, but I gotta say, that tank is really gonna be sweet. I really like the euro-bracing! Can't wait to see it in a few days.

Good luck!
Daniel

Okay new pics,...the water is still a little cloudy. My crappy camera doesn't help but things are looking on the up and up. No deaths..

Also, there are no buildings behind my tank. That just the reflection from behind me !! Starphire really allows the light to pass, the gloss back paint is a good reflector also..

Either you are mistaken and you have a 75 gallon tank or the dimensions listed are wrong. No matter though, it looks very nice.

I'm not a member of the tang police but you do realize that's a Vlamingi tang and it grows to 2 feet! In addition, it's a mid-water planktivore and requires MULTIPLE feedings per day just to maintain its body weight. I have a 500 gallon reef aquarium and consider it too small to support this fish. I wouldn't dream of putting one in a 70 gallon aquarium, unless you have a 1,000 gallon sump tucked away somewhere. :)
