72 gallon tank... 260 watts PC

Will a GBTA or RBTA survive with this setup ?

72 gallon bowfront , 120-130lbs sand, 100lbs + of Live Rock....

and 260 watts of PC lighting...

Can a GBTA or RBTA take it with this kind of lighting also figure in every other day feedings to help with not the best lighting and that there isnt actually 72 gallons of water hence a 4inch deep sand bed and the volume of water lost to the rocks...

after my GBTA wasnt doing so well, I'm thinking about the causes, I'm still left with it being that he went all down hill after being burnt by the heater in the tank...

opinions? advice?

If not a GBTA.. what kind of anemone ?

Might I also add I have a rock/flower anemone who thrives very very very well and he's been in there 6+months now. He went from a small 2 incher to a 5inch plus anemone....

IMO its not enough even for a BTA..id get the setup with the 4x96 watts PC's, 6 bulb T5HO, or even 2 MH 250's.. but hey, thats just what i would do..

I don't use PC so I don't usually comment. I am a metal halide addict.

I have seen soooo many posts on this board about troubles with anemones, and I would bet 80% or more have to do with inadequate lighting.

a 72 BF is pretty deep and you can't rely on BTAs to climb on TOP of ricks. I have 220W VHO supplementing 2*250 iwasaki on my 72BF.

Yes I would hold off. You could make haste with a Condy aka Hatian anemone but I would rather get stronger lighting and get a BTA. I just upgraded my 220 watts of PCs to Tek T5s over my 55 gallon tank. Should be a great improvement.

Yeah, I'm not a condy fan at all... I rather add another rock/flower anemone before a condy ...

I'm looking into options now, I might upgrade to a 90 gallon and go from there...

Id say that for the most part i agree with everyone else posting. I personally have a 72 bowfront with 260 watts with over 100lbs of live rock and aobut 2 inches of live sand. I got a rose bubble for 12 dollars a while back at an auction and spoke with the person who provided it and she said that she had it under power compacts with an even lower watts to gallon ration then what i have. With that I decided to take a shot and so far so good (its been like 4 months now). the anemone was about 7inches in diameter when i first got it but its about a foot across now. My two true percs love it. I think that for the most part it would be best for you to get better ligthing but i guess i lucked out since this bubble had been in captivity for such a long time (several years and the result of numerous fissions)

I have been keeping RBTAs under 260 Watts of PC in a 75 gallon (20" deep) for over a year. Below is a picture when I first got it June 2005 and the second picture about a month ago. I have had good luck keeping them. I feed them every few days or so. The Clown fish also feed them. Some of them stay at the bottom of the tank near the sand.

hmm, the last 2 posts lead me to believe I can make this happen !!

I am currently looking into halide setups anyways but I'd really like to get another GBTA or an RBTA as my cinni clown is ****ED at me for removing her host!! she's been diggin holes and moving frags on me !!!

I was going to look into a 90 gallon as there was one local to me for sale fully stock but it was sold so I'll just live with what I have as it is a descent size !!



I have hope in this, I think if I can find a spilt from someone who already grows them under pc's I'll be ok, then again I might have just got one that was already going downhill from the start, I seem to know more then I did a month ago with these so I'll do a tad more research and go from there...

Becareful, BTAs sometimes hide under halides. I would go with T5s if you want a BTA.
