75 gallon build thread, nead advice on sump installation

here is what i got so far

should i use both overflow lines or is it to much for a 75 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump, each line is 600 gph, 1200 altogether and what size and brand pump would be reliable for a return pump.

Need some advice never done sump before, this will be the first.

sump flow will be drain lines into first compartment were skimmer will be than flow to 2nd compartment for fuge area(chaeto, LR rubble) and than 3rd compartment for return pump.

Sounds like a good plan, it all depends on what return pump you use, you could use one overflow or both.

I had one lifereef 700gph overflow with a mag 9.5 pump on my old 75

I would use both. Just in case one fails you still have the other one to save your house.

Ppersonaly I would drill the tank because those overflow boxes are unreliable and very risky...

i heard that except for u tube style i heard are the way to go as far as hang on overflows.

the way i've read on some articles as long as sump and overflows are setup right it can restart itself if there was a power outage. I will be doing alot of testing to make sure there is enough room in sump if pump stops, and vice versa if over flow quit draining a pump kept going to make sure everything stays with good water levels.

next question is should i just attach hose and let drain down a adjust flow from pump.

for a 600 gph overflow what size pump should i use say for instance what size Mag drive pump. Do i want something with same flow or something a little strong to were i could adjust flow to were it should be.

Use a ballvalve to restrict the flow from the Mag pump as you need it, you then can adjust to your overflow accordingly.

A Mag 9.5 would probably be your best bet, but you would have to dial it back some.

Ditto...I have used one from the beginning and never had a failure.

One is more than enough...it takes approx 400 gph to keep it clear of microbubbles and you really don't need more flow than what one overflow can handle.

Use both overflows for protection.
Those are nice overflows, I have been running a single for a while now.

One is enough for a 75, I may go with a second soon. Even if it means upping my flow again. If your sump is setup well it can flow a lot of water.

Two would be fine, just make sure your sump can handle the amount of water that a power outage can cause.

Also make sure you put a siphon break in on your return.

when its all setup i'm gonna try out a fresh water test with one overflow than two to see how i like it. I"m not really worried about alot of flow from return pump for tank main reason for sump is filtration, fuge, skimmer. I can alway throw 2 koralis in tank for xtra flow in display tank.

So far this is my plans, any advice is appreciated
using an urchin pro skimmer till i get some more money saved up for another skimmer. forgot to add ball valves on pic there will be on at over flow and on return line from mag pump to adjust flow.

those koralia 3's will be a little weak...... you'll have to have your mag 5 return line pointed in the middle of the tank, I don't barely get much flow 2 feet away from my k3

that 9.5 will give you great flow

I have mine split to serve two tanks with 5 total outputs, a ball valve, a gate valve, total about 10 feet of pipe to pump through (about 3.5' vertical) and its pushing tons of water

you could easily get away with putting 4 outputs on your line and get awesome flow from it

I would also use both overflows (not that I would literally use them, but you know what I mean), one in each back corner...not only the security of a backup, but also for better surface skimming coverage

I shoudl also mention that I run my mag9.5 wide open and upsized the pipe to 1"

I agree with drilling the tank. I cant tell you how many times my box moved causing numerous problems. If I ever drain my larger tank I will have it drilled.

The tubes do reprime themselves when the power is lost on mine

i'm gonna try one overflow for now since i'm gonna have a fuge area, don't want water to flow to fast through there. Plus i got money for mag 9.5 and plumbing the bigger i go more i got to spend and my wife won't be happy i will upgrade later this is just were i'm gonna start at.

Glass is tempered or i would consider drilling.

so latayzo a mag 9.5 would push good for 4 lines in tank for flow, i guess i will redraw my plans than. Wasn't sure to go with 4 or 2 lines.

my cousins failed on him i bought one 3 years ago for my 29 gallon man those are very thin plasic easy to break (i didnt even use it- wasnt worth the risk to me)

well on mine I have a mag9.5 running wide open through all kinds of BS including a split to another tank

so Im running 2 tanks off of it with 5 total outputs and like 10 feet of pipe and its still pushing so much water I had that micro bubble problem

I would definitely do 4 outputs

are you gonna have a canopy?

if you have a canopy I highly recommend the schplitter loop (reference my thread (red house) for details), there is nothing like the top down from the front flow that you can get from the loop
