Hey all so im pretty new to salt but have been in the freshwater for some time keeping piranhas, african tigerfish and other monsters so i am familiar with equipment and dedication into this hobby with that being said..... my plan is to get my 75 gallon going... its going to be a fowlr tank with about 75-100 lbs of rock and 75 lbs of live sand..... my plan was to have around 10 fish .... mostly hardy fish like goby, damsel, dartfish, bleny etc.... pretty much easy peaceful group that all max at 2-4 inches roughly.... i wont be able to do a sump so will have to go with a hob skimmer?...

Would a skimmer be required for my set up , if so what hob skimmer do u recommend and up to how many gallons skimming power

What rodi unit would u recomend?

I also have 2 extra aquaclear 110s..... can i use them? If so what media do u suggest?

I wont be doing any corals and would pretty much like a basic set up that can thrive.... once this tank is established and i know i can handle things i might go in further in the future

Thanks for anyones help in advance

I used to have an aqua c remora on my 75 before I added a sump. Worked good but I just got sick of seeing the pump hanging down in the tank

I think the ac110s will work fine. I would leave the carbon out when you first set up your tank though. I have an ac110 on my 30G fowlr tank. I just bought a reef octopus 100 skimmer for my 75g.

What media should i keep in the aquaclears if my live rock is the bio?...... i know protein skimmers are a big plus to have but with 10 small fish .... could i get by with extra rock and the 2 aquaclears with filterfloss that i can change weekly?

Definitely get a skimmer. I run an Aquaclear 75 on my 55 and once the skimmer went online it was pulling out a bunch of dark green stuff that the Aquaclear didn't get.

If you run a bit of floss in the bottom of the AC110s, you could run purigen over it in one and carbon or PhosGuard over the floss in the other. You could actually run two different chems side-by-side in the filters, since they're in mesh bags. The floss will trap the large stuff floating around and the skimmer will get the dissolved stuff.

I would ditch the filters. you don't need them. get a good skimmer like a Reef Octopus bh 1000 or better yet, a bh2000. the pumps are on the outside. you really don't need carbon for a fowlr. your fish list is good in case you change your mind about coral. my 120 gal. started as a fowlr. I was sure about no coral because I don't have a sump and I don't want to dose. I have lots of softies and a few lps and I still don't dose. most people will stay with a fowlr because they want bf's, angels, etc. which are not compatable with coral.
