I have a standard 48" x 18" tank. I'd recently bought 2 used 150w Sunpods but they were kind of beat up and I wanted some high end reflectors to maximize the light penetration of the low wattage bulbs.
I'd read good things about the LumenMax Elites but I'd also read they didn't come in a 150w size. Then I saw some 150s for sale on Ebay and I jumped at the chance. Sure enough though, two days later the seller contated me to let me know they'd made a mistake in their listing and refunded my money.
I've already eviscerated the Sunpods and I really don't want to use them anyway. I have 2 150 ballasts the 'pods came with and an electronic 250w ballast from my old tank. I don't want supplemental actiinics just halide pendants, so bulb coloration is also going to be a factor, >= 10k.
I don't want to do 250s because of the heat and the added electrical usage but I'm still open to the possibility.
So here are my choices as I see them
2 150 DEs in a yet to be named high end reflector.
2 150, 50k Iwasakis in Elite mogul reflectors.
2 250 DEs in Elite or similar reflectors.
2 250 SEs in Elite or similar reflectors. I really like the Hamilton 14Ks.
1 250 in an Elite type reflector on a light mover.
This tank is going to be a heavy on the sps mixed reef. I really would appreciate any advice or experiences you'd like to share. I don't want to regret another pricey decision if I can help it.
