75 gallon mixed reef build

Can't it had a couple stickers on it that said do not drill glass. One on the bottom and one on the back glass. Funny thing is I don't really consider my self a DIY person. I never made anything before I started this hobby. A lot of guys make really clean looking stuff as I'm fairly inexperienced I think some of it could be better but I'm learning.

Are you sure? Who built the tank? It shouldn't have tempered back glass. HOB overflows are destined for failure. I would never have a tank with one.

Yeah that's what it's says on the sticker. Don't know who made it I traded a 55gal tank and some beer for it. The only thing that was on it were the little white stickers and one that said all glass which I don't get. I took the two stickers off the back and left the one on the bottom. Says temperd glass for added strength on both of them. Isn't there some kind of test to see if it's temperd glass or not? I took the sticker on the back to mean all the glass was temperd like the 55gal I had.

RE:ATS. Just need to wet test ....

how did it go? did the changes you made function better? any pictures of it in place?

Haven't tested it yet. When I do I'll post a video if the site will let me. Had a 16hr and 12hr day at work so I didn't get to it yet. I have two small power heads I'll probably hook one of those up to it.

Going to find out if glass can be drilled and if I can make something work

Honestly man I would never have a HOB overflow... I doubt all sides are tempered. I would try and figure out.

"You can try polarized sunglasses. If you look at the piece of glass while
wearing them, you might see various rainbow patterns in the glass, obscuring
your view. This is why polarized lenses are not recommended for driving; the
side windows on cars are tempered" (found this on the internet... I've heard it works before")

Goodluck!

Water tested the ATS

No leaks and the water seems to stay at a good height. I put a bit more flow through it then I will have when it's running

I'll have to pick up a pair of those glasses. Don't really know anything about installing an internal overflow. I'm trying to look up info. I would only have two options make an overflow the size of what I have or leave that gap there behind the rock which would be a dead spot. If I made a box out of acrylic I wouldn't be able to bond that to glass right? Because of the amount of space I have I would have to use an internal and external box which could be held by a bulkhead. The external box would have to be bigger to get the piping in. I would probably have to go with a herbie overflow because of the space I would have to work with. The other problem I have is I would have no way to cut the teeth in the box.

I just haven't gotten around to changing how it's attached yet. Going to add a valve so the drain will make less noise. This is still a work in progress. I am no where near ready to put water in the tank and run the ATS.

Ok so there's no way a valve would fit on the drain without sitting under water. I'm probably going to skip doing that. Also going to cut the drains shorter.

Found a cheap router. I can make an overflow box out of acrylic. Just have to figure out the outside box. I don't have enough room to make a beananimal overflow so I would have to go with a herbie style. I still need to do more check to see if this is feasible. Space wise and design wise.
