75 or 29 clownfish

After I move, I'll have fewer freshwater fish, so I'll have the space to set up a reef. I'd like to do a clownish pair with a host. Maroon/BTA in the 75, or one of the smaller ones in the 29. Probably not an anemone in a 29 either.

I have a 75 gallon drilled near the top, or an undrilled 29. I picked up the 75g leaking, but it was just the (siliconed bulkheads). I fixed those, but capped them anyway when it held a gymnogeophagus colony. It has no piping or sump pump. Actually, it does not have a sump in the first place.

So how much more will will a 75 cost to set up and run than a 29. I did a 10g yellow tailed damsel and mushrooms several years ago, but everything keeps changing!

It's not going to be a big difference in cost between the two but it will be noticable in both set-up and long term care. I'd say your biggest set-up cost difference is going to be lighting and flow for the bigger 75.

One type of anemone that will work nicely in the 29 is the caribbean rock flower, they have nice coloration, are quite hardy, stay small and don't wander very much. I have 4 of them in different color forms in my 30gal and one in my 6gal.

You should use the 29 as your sump.as far as how much more Wil it cost,you could get by pretty cheap or spend a sick amount. Really the choice is yours. Personally I scavenge and dyi every thing I can, good luck

Def go with the 75 if you have the space. Any increase in cost can be made up by setting a portion of the tank for Frag growout.

I'm looking for a pretty basic set up. Most of my freshwater tanks are actually central air sponge filters.

It looks like the clownfish/BTA are often found in lagoons? Is there a good source to where various fish and corals are found on the reef? Lagoon, crest, slope? I like biotopes.

I agree with 29 as sump, I used one quite well, but switched to a 40b for a sump. The height is a little odd, but a small skimmer and a decent fuge will fit well in it.
