I don't think it is a real issue. But I'm waiting on Fliger's method via PM. I will let you know as soon as he gets back to me.

Travis that sounds about right. I did rapidly add alot of carbon in my old setup.

It's going to mix together anyway since they are in a fluidized reactor.

I never was a believer in mixing these 2 medias. I use a litre of Rowa in a Deltec FR509 and 2 litres of carbon in a DIY (Korallin) reactor. The carbon is replaced monthly, but the Rowa can go 3 to 4 months without needing replacement. So their exhaustion timeframes are way off from each other. I test for phosphates monthly. If I detect any phosphates at all, I reduce the flow thru the Rowa almost by half. This usually brings the effluent back down to zero phosphates. Then I test again until I see the phosphates are detectable, usually in 2 to 3 weeks. At this point I consider the Rowa exhausted, indicating that its time to dump and replace.

elephen,

The "ratio" you ask of is the crutial point of mixing the 2 medias. If both medias were used in quantities that would have them exhaust at the same time, that would be the ideal ratio. I think this would be a difficult thing to calculate especially since each system is going to have it's own unique requirements.

Tagareef-

Most definately.

I have never run any phosphate media but in a week or two I will be switching my 75 over to a 120 that will be BB and I want to run a phosphate media since I'm sure it'll be higher then what I have now.

What is the ideal gph flow through the media and in your opinion, whats some good media to use?

elephen

I'm not a expert, But from everything I have read and that is alot you want the media just perculating/bubbling to the eye. You will see little pieces rise a little off the bed of the media then fall back down. Like popcorn I guess.

I'm using Rowa. 400-600 is to much IMO. I have about 1 tablespoon. I'm using one of those microjets. Max it could do is 168 I think. I have it turned all the way down since its adjustable. So I guess it's at 120GPH PLUS I have that little ballvalve almost closed. So in my case I'm doing around maybe 80-100 GPH?

400-600GPH is way way to much. Get a very small maxijet and you can always dial that back with the ballvalve the TLF reactor comes with.

After I get my new sump I will use the same feed pump for my skimmer for my TLF reactor

After I get my new sump I will be buying a new external pump that is my number 1 priority ATM.

I have my own most wanted list. Since I got the idea from the SPS forum.

I swear I have a Monti Danea Obsession!!!

Eriks most wanted

Superman Monti
Rainbow Monti

Pink polyp cap from http://www.atlantisaquarium.net

Blue Hoeksemai
Miyagi tort

I also never thought I would like caps but I have a Frag of a Green Frag, Shawn Bennett Cap, I'm loving them.

Blue Lossetie GOT IT!!!!!!! This was on my most wanted list now I have it.

Idaho grape I have been seeing it more and more but is it a Cap of some kind? I love the color.

My new window shoping store is http://www.atlantisaquarium.net/sps.html

Check this Thread out of Copps selling stuff.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=450284&perpage=25&pagenumber=5

Go to page 5, I love that Danea he's calling The Hulk. Do you guys know where I can find it?

Also I'm scared to buy a Danea not knowing if it was wild or not. It seems that in the SPS forum there talking about the Danea just dying in there tanks for no reason. Is from the fact that there wild colonies?

Man those are some sweet sps. I have decided that until my 120 is up and stable for a month or two I will not add any new livestock, not really worth wasting money on something if its just going to die :)

Any new photos man?

The superman is one of the very few corals that I want for my tank. IMHO, I think the rainbow monti is overrated. The only part that has different colored polyps is the growing edge as far as I know. So frags look cool cuz they come from the growing edge and appear to be rainbow colored. But the actual colonies tend to be less colorful with only the growing edge having different colored polyps. Myagi tort is a good one. Hoeksemai is also one of the last corals on the wanted list that I want for my tank. I had one a while back but my sailfin killed it.:( I am in the same boat as you regarding caps. Never really cared much for them but after having a few they grow on ya. What I really like about them is that they are a good coral to fill in the bottom of the tank where there is less light and a greater chance they will be shaded later down the road from acros growing above them. They can tolerate very low light levels and still grow plenty fast. Atlantis does have very nice frags, but the prices are up there and the size is pretty small. But sometimes you have to pay to play.;)

I've never had a Danae so can't help you out in that department. All I know is they don't like a lot of flow and prefer dim light. I have a monasteriata frag that I got from Tyree (very similar to the danae), that has done absolutely nothing over the past 8 months. In fact it is finally giving up and slowly dying away.

elephen

You know what? Tommorow I will be taking pictures:) I havent shown my tank in some time.

You won't believe me but 1 frag that has grown the most is a Tort from my friend/Reefer buddy Jay.

Travis

It's strange because I really don't really follow the trends when it comes to what I like. There are many popular corals that ATM don't interest me. For 1 is the Purple Monster ATM this is a very in demand coral but for me the Tort impresses me much more.

Another are Acans to tell you the truth I think there ugly :)

The Danaes actually are the one thing that IMO are actually nice looking.

With my caps I did exactlly what you did I put them low in the tank and they will be a nice filler:)

A tank I saw a Superman Danae in was friend/Reefer Buddy Ross. The colors are incredible under T5s. Actually all his corals impress me. The colors and growth he has from his T5s Destroy mine. The colors are so rich.

Side Note:

I just got a PM from Jay today and he is ready to give me some more frags:) I'm not sure if there going to be clippings from the Frags I gave him over a year ago. Or from what colonies. All I can say is I love seeing his tank.

Every frag I gave him are Full colonies now. You have to see the Shawn Bennett tort!!! It's huge.. All I can say is it's awesome!

But I will be getting more frags of some of his corals. His tank always impresses me.

I love going over his house and looking all over his tank and finding new corals. He also has alot of new frags he bought from RM. I can't wait to see them.

Well last night was great!

Lets let the pictures do the talking.

Very nice score!

I've been running ROWAphos on my tank for months now, and I use a lot. The last time I changed the media, I put in 16 teaspoons in each reactor (2), and filled up a third reactor with fresh carbon.

To remove the fines from my reactors, I just run the tubing out to a bucket next to the sump. I turn on the pump, and it drains about 4g of water per reactor. I just replace that with newly mixed saltwater, which basically is a mini-water change.

I used to rinse it in a separate container with RO water, but this is easier for me.

I just ordered 2 Phosban 150 reactors and 200ml of ROWAphos. Glad to hear some people are using it and it works. I'll be running one for carbon and one for rowa.

arconom - can't wait to see those puppies mounted in your tank.

Did you ever decide what bulbs to go with on your halides?

melev - Thanks I'm very happy!!! I have these frags mounted, Pictures to come. I also think. Do you have seperate pumps or feeds for each TLF reactors?

elephen - I have offically had the reflux 10k's running for over 2 1/2 weeks. The color is awesome. It's a balance between white and a over tone of blue. But not to blue like the Hammys.

Since all of my Emerald Crabs are dead I'm thinking of buying some more. But now that I have alot more Corals I'm having Second thoughts. Travis you kind of scared me when you told me they were a nuisance for you. I really don't my Coral Polyps eaten:(

I have a few emeralds that I got when they were VERY small. Got them from MidwestReefs.com and they havn't bothered any of my SPS.

If you decide to get some make sure you get the tiny ones, less chance of them eating polyps/zoos IMO.

Your running XM10ks arn't you? Are you using any atinic supplimentation? I keep forgetting...
