Thanks for reminding me to change my profile.

I run the 10k Reeflux now.

I have to say the frags I just got are alreay encrusted. I haven't seen any decline in growth at all. The best part is I have more color now from all of my corals.

The first 2 weeks the bulbs were more blue then they are now. Now that there all burned in I have to say they have just a hint of blue.

I have come from using the Ushio 10k,XM 10k, I wasn't about to give up all of my par for more blue. But even the Reeflux 10ks have low par numbers.

Well I posted in the Deltec section about a issue I'm having with Rowaphos.

Usually with Phosban or Rowa there is a temporary drop in alk and PH.

Ever since I have had this ROWA online my alk has steadly decresed.

Cal-About 360
Alk-6.9-7.0

The wierd part is I to try and combat it by adding Bionic 2part.

I have been adding 120ML of alk and Calcium it won't budge.

Magniusim is 1320-1350

I have no idea whats going on.

When I was running rowa I noticed that it caused calcium carbonate to precipitate out of the water and I would get calcium carbonate crystals fluidizing in with the GFO. The ROWA also turned into a brick after a month or so from the precipitation. I posted it to Randy at the time and he did confirm it was precipitation of calcium carbonate. But I'm suprised it is having such a profound effect on your system. Are you running your calcium reactor or just dosing the 2 part for now?

Travis how much Rowa you use back then?

Travis

I noticed a few days ago I started dosing Bionic in one section of the sump and that where my feed pump to my Rowa Reactor/Phosban reactor is. I watched as the alk would turn into small balls going through the Rowa media. It looked like a Lave lamp.

The thing that is strange is if this is in fact I had a precipitation problem all of the signs were not there.

First I don't bring my alk past 8.0-8.5

Second my calcium stays in the 420-430 range.

Third my PH goes from 8.0-8.3

Can I have had a precipation issue under these conditions?

I'm going to post this in the Chemist section.

This is a mystery.

Zoom, I was running whatever the large container was... 1000ml I believe.

arconom, If there is something in the ROWA that causes a chemical reaction to take place where precipitation of calcium carbonate happens, my best guess is that it could happen regardless of alk, ca, and ph levels. But that is just a guess. This isn't the same thing that happens when you have too much of one thing in solution, which causes it to precipate out (snowstorm).

I only use 250Ml on my 200G with no problems. JBNY had problems when he use to much ROWA . I think i can go up to 500Ml but that is max.
You think you overdose the tank with 1000Ml of ROWA?

I have read through all the threads about people claiming to have problems with using too much GFO. I'm not sure if I buy into the theory or not. I think it is more an equation of your flow rate through the GFO. You could run 5 lbs of GFO or 50 ml of it. If you only have a flow rate of say 50 gph going through it, then you should get a 0 reading on the output so you will get the same effect, however if you are running a larger amount you won't have to change it out as often. But I also learned that running a larger amount is not necessarily beneficial because it will clump up before you can exhaust it.

When talking with a rep from Rowaphos at MACNA, he stated that tanks with higher Calcium levels will cause the media to turn to stone.

Ok heres the deal. I stopped using the Rowa on Sunday. When I was using the Rowa I was adding 150ML of alk and calc everyday and still couldn't get my levels to move.

I just tested my alk

It's 6.4:(

I added 150 ok alk and in 2 minutes 150 of Calc

How long should I wait to see if it had a effect?

I was so tempted to do a water change but to isolate the problem I guess It is best to not change water? This will tell me if the rowa did in fact limit my calc and alk levels.
