75g build questions

I am in the process of setting up my new 75g. I had bought a 30g to use as the sump. My plan was to get the glass baffles cut tomorrow and get the sump built this week. I have been reading a bunch and trying to learn as much as possible as I go. In my reading I am seeing where it is important to have a wide sump. So, will the 30g work fine or should I do something like a 40 breeder? I am building my own stand that is 24" deep even though the tank is 18 so a 40 breeder will fit. I figured the extra room would be handy for ato and other equipment. Plus if I decide to upgrade to a 24" deep tank later I can keep the same stand if I want.

Bigger is better but 10g is not that much of a difference. If you have the resources go with it

The gallon amount is not what I am questioning because if that is iti agree 10g isn't much. I read somewhere (on this forum) that it is important for flow to have a wide sump. If I'm not gaining much by the extra 6" of width then I'll just roll with the 30.

I'd say use the 30, it should be plenty. And it will leave you with a little more space for other stuff in the stand.
