75g Lurking danger and Leafy Seadragons

My mp40 came yesterday afternoon. It was making some vibration noise but turns out when you properly install it with a spacer for glass thickness the noise goes away! Who knew? I should read directions first, then trouble shooting isn't necessary, LOL.
Its pricey but its going to be great in this tank!

Today I made a trip to our lfs. I wanted to see if they had any of the fish that I was interested in. They did! I came home with a blue eyed kole tang and a small 1 spot foxface. Right now both are acclimating in baby nets. When the lights go down I will release them. I will try to get pics of these new guys as soon as they comfortably are coming out.

BTW, I love the vortechs and so do my coral!

So I released both fish just as the lights were almost done and this morning they both were swimming out in the open water. Neither looked stressed and both were picking too at algae. I have Seaweed Select clipped in 2 places for them plus I will be giving 2 meals of frozen green food, emerald entree and formula 2 today. Of course there is some algae in the tank even though I cleaned some nuisance algae off during the transfer. Anyway here are some pics. They are at a distance since the guys are skittish if I get too close to the tank.

Aw, thank you Uncle99! Yes, I was trying to create peaceful and relaxing. However I did intentionally throw a few elements of discord just to create a bit of dichotomy. Look in the left side of the kelp and you will see a ribbonfish with sharp teeth. Then down along the sand in the middle of the tank is an anglerfish. Finally in the rockwork in front of the largest leafy dragon is a saber tooth dinosaur skull. I tried to keep them subtle enough to not be glaring so that the overall feel of the tank was peaceful and relaxing. It's my way of dealing with the tension of wanting a serene peaceful fish tank but always wondering when something is going to disrupt that peace, ha ha!View attachment 32414180View attachment 32414179
You are very talented!
Great mix of art forms into a cohesive package.
Very cool stuff!

Thanks so much! If I were younger and I had known that I could do this I might have tried to make it a career. However my hubby and I are both retired now a couple years and life is good just as it is, so I will just enjoy my own tank and art.
:)

Both tang and foxface look relaxed and comfortable in their new digs. The foxface is grazing constantly but is picky about the frozen food I add to the tank. He eats some but not as zealously as I would like. He does seem to be fattening up however. The Kole tang eats greedily.

Good news everyone, the foxface (whom I have named Spike) is now eating prepared food, both veggie kelp flakes and frozen spiralina enriched brine shrimp. Here is a short video of feeding time:

I forgot to mention that I bought pods and phyto from Algae Barn.

My pods and phyto arrived from Algae Barn today. They were well packaged and in good shape.
I poured the pods into the AquaClear filter (which was turned off) so the pods could settle down and find places to live and have a family or two or a thousand! I will turn the filter back on in an hour. I bought phyto too so will dose a tiny bit every day.

I also increased the intensity of the white diodes during the peak hours of day for the macroalgae and for myself. I like white light better than too much blue. I also bought Flourish and Excel to help the macroalgae. We will see what happens. Hopefully not an explosion of bubble, turf or gha! LOL

They all look like they are feeding well.
The goby maybe gets a bit less, some were stealing “his pieces” as they are faster, however he certainly got some.
Looks great!
Definitely the less shy fish get more and the Bi-color and the masked gobies get left overs. That was only a portion of the frozen and there was more to come. An auto feeder dispenses 2X a day as well. I feed pretty heavy since I am feeding the macroalgae too.

Well folks, I almost learned a hard lesson! Yesterday after I did my weekly water change I dosed Seachem Flourish and Excel to help the macroalgae grow. I have used them in the past and knew they were OK. However, I was not aware that they can diminish oxygen in the water column. The tank stayed cloudy longer than I would have expected and Blondie, my new Blue eyed Kole tang kept swimming to the surface. I know tangs have high respiration and wondered if she was short on oxygen. I was perplexed as to what to do but knew the AquaClear was falling to the water surface further than normal making lots of surface agitation. I decided to go to bed and hope for the best in the morning.
Well this morning the tank had cleared up nicely and one by one the fish woke up and meandered out,,,all except Blondie. That was disturbing so I googled Flourish and Excel only to learn that overdosing can be fatal to some fish because of depleting oxygen. To make things worse I used a very old bottle of Excel and it may be concentrated from evaporation so I may have overdosed the tank. Also it said to never use right after a water change when oxygen levels are lowered. I was feeling sick! Much to my relief however Blondie came out looking alright but just acting a little skittish an hour or so after the other fish. So, lesson learned!
