75g Pipefish tank idea

I have a 75g tank and i was considering making it into a pipefish centered tank. I love the blue stripe pipefish but due to its small size and the fact only a pair is recommended I am not sure if that is the best choice. So my main question here is what species of fish (either one species or multiple) would be good for stocking a 75g? Also i would like to hear from others with experience with these guys about what other fish can be successfully kept with them. Are clams ok? thanks in advance.

To be seen easily in a 75 gal, I'd look into alligator pipes (Syngnathoides biaculeatus), which is actually considered a "pipehorse" because they can "hitch". You can keep multiple specimens, and they're pretty good-sized. Another nice thing about them is they have large snouts and can eat more of a variety of foods, and they tend to be easier to wean.

You could also keep Gulf pipes (Syngnathus scovelli) or Northern pipes (S. fuscus).

If you keep clams, there's a risk of having one slam shut on a pipe, so you need to assess your risk tolerance there.

Don't keep any boisterous or aggressive fish with pipes, and I'd stay away from cleaner shrimp as they have a tendency to be "insistent" to the point of stressing out Syngnathids . In fact, you'll want to establish your pipes first before adding any piscine tankmates.

Temp should be 75*F max.

I agree with what Greg said. I used to have a 29g with a pair of gulf pipefish. my tank mates were a filefish and a pair of firefish. the pipes and filefish i caught locally. i had no problem getting my pipefish S. Scovelli to switch from live brine to frozen mysis. i did have flow problems with my gulf pipes however, and lost one as it was caught between the heater and the back side of the tank :(
